Cigars/Cigarettes

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 10:50 am

yeah... nothing cooler than getting cancer, coughing up a storm, and choking on your own blood as your lung pops loose and is blasted out of your throat as you're in the middle of a fight against a terrible world-threatening dragon.

think that sums it up.

Yea, dying miserably and making others pay for you being an ass, is the new cool!

I do not ever remember any dialogue saying Skooma is smoked.

In Morrowind, go see under the bed of Caius Cosaid's bed, and you will se a Skooma pipe.

This is making me want to try smoking... with a pipe... how cool would I look sitting there smoking a pipe after school.
People come and ask me what I'm doing... "I'm *cough* role playing for the new *wheezy exhale* Skyrim"

No but seriously, pipe smoking would fit a lot more just because you see people smoking modern cigar(ettes) all the time, so that is just the first thing most people think of when they see it.

Plus, they think of LotR.

Btw wouldn't it be pretty useless to add eather of those things? Would it really be that fun to equip a pope and have that animation for a while while you could be kicking ass in a dungeon? Just sayin

Sometimes, I have that thought... But when I remember the stinch, the thought disapears...

Cigarettes weren't even made really until the 1800s. http://www.cigarettes-below-cost.com/history_of_cigarettes.html

Cigars maybe, but people in the time era Skyrim is set in used pipes and smoking tubes. I'd like to keep to the era.

Edit: Look at the 1832 spot.

I'm all for smoking various herbs in a wrap, but I'd imagine people in Tamriel smoke from pipes, or hookas. I vote no.

REMEMBER CIGARETTES AND CIGARS AREN'T MODERN. ANCIENT AZTECS AND MAYANS SMOKED CIGARETTES AND CIGARS

I think that since there is tobacco, people would figure out you can smoke it eventually. IMO Skyrim should have cigarettes (whether pre-rolled or in a pouch with rolling papers). My Adventurer would look pretty badass with a cigarette

only a smoker could of thought of this, its a pretty stupid idea. BUT, I wouldnt care if your character was standing idle for a while and he starts to smoke a pipe or if your trying to blend in by leaning against a wall or sitting in the corner of a bar smoking your pipe in the dark with your hood up (yes, Aragorn gave me that idea :P )

noooooo they didn't have CIGARETTES. as your "Source" even says they had things that RESEMBLED Cigarrettes. Kinda bit yourself in the bum there.

no. they smoked it. there's a cited reference here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cigarette#History

did you seriously use Wikipedia as a source? hmm..

I think cigars and cigs would fit perfectly. You want to no where they don't fit? Mass Effect. Not only are humans still smoking 500 years into the future, but they got other races to smoke as well! I think it's fine for TES

I can see them fit at Mass Effect.
They are in the future, and until then scientists found ways to make people smoke without harmfull effects.
You can read that at the latest book of the franchise, the one the Illusive Man is the protagonist.

I'd love to see it for RP reasons. Sadly this won't happen because if your smoking in a game it might make you smoke in reality and all the anti-smoking nazi types will come down on this game like a ton of bricks. Cool idea yeah but don't think so sadly =(

Really ?
Smoking in a game makes people smoke in reallity ?
So everyone who played Duke Nukem started walking around the streets shooting police officers ?
And everyone played GTA4 started shooting pigeons ?

I honestly can't believe what I'm reading.
Please people, find better points to post or don't post at all.

The point most people who are against smoking at all write in this thread is that smoking should be left out because it's harmful to real people's health.

But... HELLO !!!!
Stabbing someone with a dagger is also harmful to someone's health.
Hitting someone's head with a mace is also harmful to someone's health.

I mean, in today's games people kill people for no reason, torture, and do so many things that in real life are harmful, illegal, unethical and what so ever, and while people open bottles of champagne :celebration: for learning they will have new ways to brutally kill other people with finishing moves, they become vampires, they become mutants, and then they come and say that smoking should not be added because.....

It makes someone's health worse!!!

Am I the only who think that this is a way of having unfair double standards ? :whistling:
We do something like over 100 different things to kill people, there are hundreds of ways to die or get sick, and people complain about something that will hurt you after you are so addicted to it that you make it daily for 30 or 40 years.

I voted for pipes. Besides being disgusting and terrible for you, cigars and cigarettes wouldn't match the world of Tamriel.

Pipes might fit ok, and as for a gameplay mechanic, I'd prefer them to be aesthetic but possibly run out over time like torches.

Yea, I know 2 skooma pipes.
1 in Caius Cosad's house, under his bed.
1 near a city I forgot the name.... Where the is a naked that got his axe stolen. Near a scamp infested ruin, there is a dead guy with a skooma pipe.

Biased poll, can't really answer. Surprised nobody brought this up. I think it's a silly feature, but I don't think smoking is bad.

It's their body, their choice on what they do to it. It's not bad in a moral sense.

I voted yes, but then I realised how out of place they all the options would seem so I deleted my vote and re-voted..

Plus, some 12 year olds might not be allowed to play anymore, because that's how old I was when I started TES

This game is going to be M, I doubt we'll be seeing many 12 year olds playing except for those with parents who don't care.

The same thing can be said about car exhaust. We aren't doing anything about that.
It's a very weak argument. A more potent side-effect would be the subversive influence of smoking imagery. (though I don't put much value it that either, but it's more plausible than yours)

Wikipedia is very biased. Not enough points to the contrary is given.

But it's OUR money that must pay, when they get sick.

Compared to the amount of money the tobacco industry produces, directly and indirectly (ATF and medical), we don't pay a dime. The only negative tobacco has on our society is a "few" dead people. Governments likes the tobacco industry, you should two.
