Cigars/Cigarettes

The same thing can be said about car exhaust. We aren't doing anything about that.
It's a very weak argument. A more potent side-effect would be the subversive influence of smoking imagery. (though I don't put much value it that either, but it's more plausible than yours)

Wikipedia is very biased. Not enough points to the contrary is given.

Haha, great logic.

"Well this is bad too but nobody is doing anything about it!"

That doesn't mean smoking is just fine and dandy. Second hand smoke kills. It's a fact. There is no other side of things. It's a cold hard, scientifically proven, fact. There's no argument to make. If you think smoking has any benefits that outweigh the negatives, you're kidding yourself.

Oh and for your information, we are doing something about car exhaust. Notice the small shift towards Hybrid cars going on in the world? Whether or not people choose to adopt them is a different story. The majority of the world still chooses to be ignorant towards issues like car exhaust just like they are towards smoking.

There should totally be NPC's walking around getting baked. It could make for some entertaining casual overhearings as you trot past.

But it's OUR money that must pay, when they get sick.

Technically smokers cost society less than non-smokers. The nice thing about smoking is it generally kills you young, while paying for cancer treatment is expensive some yahoo living till he is 80+ costs more. The older you get generally the more medical care you need. But hey they don't harp on my drinking and eating I wont harp on their smoking. Apparently my hokers and blow habit is illegal though for some reason. :)

I say no to cigarettes, but pipes ok, but I voted other. I had to vote other because I have my son who plays, and I don't think it would be good to have smoking in the game. A pipe is ok, becuase he doesn't really see that as smoking, just like in Lord of the Rings, so pipe ok, but would feel better if it was left out. I don't think the Player Character really needs to smoke.

If person needs to smoke what's next? Somethings just need to be out of games. Again this comes to imagination. You telling me you can't imagine your charcter is smoking or having a pipe? Some things can be left for the imagination. We don't need everything in the game. What is next, we need toilet paper and have to equipe on our character to be used? Come on. Some things should be left out of a TES game.

I am not saying it shoudn't be in computer games, but not in a TES game.

yeah... nothing cooler than getting cancer, coughing up a storm, and choking on your own blood as your lung pops loose and is blasted out of your throat as you're in the middle of a fight against a terrible world-threatening dragon.

think that sums it up.

That's a good point.

In Skyrim where it's a cold environment and the Nords are warriors, I don't think smoking would work well for them at all.

I don't care, far more better things could be done that add to the game then useless cigarettes. More character animation distinctions, and less cagey canned animations please. :banghead:

Pipe smoking? phew...yes.

Cigarrettes? No [censored] way.

Asking about adding modern-time things (and don't tell me that "CIGARETTES AND CIGARS AREN'T MODERN. ANCIENT AZTECS AND MAYANS SMOKED CIGARETTES AND CIGARS", that's just a bad excuse to have an argument to add them) is plain stupid. TES is middle-aged placed, if it can be placed in any RL timeline. Period.

If you want cigarrettes and guns, go play Red Dead Redemption.

I think Skooma is sufficient, maybe some kind of pipe-Skooma smoking that is illegal could add more to the feel of Skooma rather than them just being bottles of harm. Some legal pipe smoking would also be nice, but I don't think Nords smoke much, after all all they need is mead. :foodndrink:

And some of the effects could be hallucinations. Such as dragons appearing in front of you and you have to catch them.

Not in Skyrim. In a more exotic setting, pipes or perhaps even cigars could be an option, but not in the early medieval, european setting of the Nords.

And here we have the savior of Skyrim and infact the Whole of Tamriel a skooma addict.
If they ever did a desert themed Elder Scrolls game Shisha Pipes would be cool!

Every person have flaws, mine could be skooma, if Sherlock Holmes can be a drug addict, so can dovahkiin.

This game is going to be M, I doubt we'll be seeing many 12 year olds playing except for those with parents who don't care.

I'm guessing you've never been in a lobby of pre-teens in COD then

Even if the game wasn't M though, I highly doubt most 12 year olds would be lining up on release day. Even if there are exceptions like me (15).

I think there should be negative effects to smoking however you do it and you should have to buy. I remember walking around the capital wasteland on fallout finding a packs of smokes all over the place randomly lol

But it's OUR money that must pay, when they get sick.

Just as it`s our money that is sunk into paying for Alcohol related treatments but thats deemed social unlike smoking hmm?
The drunken casualties that pile into Accident and Emergency across the nation, every weekend alone are costing the Health Service a ridiculous amount of time and money. Only recently, there was an article in the news about how it is crippling our Health Service. Add to that, the alcohol related illness that results in treatments alone for liver, heart and brain affected illness. Cancer is also linked with it.

As someone who worked in the alcohol abuse field, i`m well aware of the destruction it causes, not just with the idiots themselves but also the effects on their families, i.e broken homes etc.

"Alcohol causes nearly 4 percent of deaths worldwide, more than AIDS, tuberculosis or violence" - Worldwide Health Orginization

I get disgruntled when i see the anti-smoking brigade making out as if smoking is the only nasty addicitive drug that costs the health service. Meh.

For me, cigars are too associated with the Warcraft and Warhamme universes (especially their dwarves) for it to fit in well with TES lore. Pipes would do though.

at first when i saw this topic I thought it was a joke. I highly doubt bethesda would alienate so many potential to include something the game doesn't need.

Compared to the amount of money the tobacco industry produces, directly and indirectly (ATF and medical), we don't pay a dime. The only negative tobacco has on our society is a "few" dead people. Governments likes the tobacco industry, you should two.

Well, you obviously don't live in Canada.

Eh, only if there are cute cigarette and candy girls ;)

I mean, if alcoholism, and drug addiction are in, why not add some more sixism?

I didn't I was an anti-smoking brigade... But cigarettes are, in fact pretty addictive... Even more today...

On wikipedia, if we go see certain links for studies made, we can see it's not a so called "soft" drug.

After thinking about this a bit more, I think a pouch of tobacco would be kind of cool, with papers to roll your own cigarettes. It seems like it could fit in quite well with the fantasy setting. As for cigars, hmmm, I don't know. They seem too modern.

Maybe the people of TES universe were just not stupid enough to come up the idea of inhaling the leaves of a plant that gets you very addicted to it but provides no psychological or physical benefit other than removing the withdrawal effects it causes.

A pipe, with some sort of Nirn leaf.
If people don't like smoking ,then maybe Skooma should be snorted (because that's better  ).
Cigarettes, no thanks, I can just see the beautiful landscape littered with cigarette butts.

Cigarettes have a modern feel to them, it doesn't matter if it's technically possible for them to be made in Nirn or not. I'm in favour of the pipe. ;)
