Well Cigars have always been basically the same, and the only difference with cigarettes is the filter and the brand name.

I think the problem is people just think "if LOtR had it it's okay, and if not it doesn't fit."

I think cigars and cigs would fit perfectly. You want to no where they don't fit? Mass Effect. Not only are humans still smoking 500 years into the future, but they got other races to smoke as well! I think it's fine for TES

Yes, politicians and reporters could potentially blow this out of proportion. There are still a lot of people who believes that computer games are for kids only, and they might very well think of this as a pro-smoking campaign directed specifically towards children. It won't matter if the game is directed to an older audience. This kind of stuff is sensitive.

The Bosmer had pipes, but filled them with caterpillars and tree grubs instead of tobacco. If they had that, I don't think anyone would be able to complain that they're encouraging smoking.

I'd love to see it for RP reasons. Sadly this won't happen because if your smoking in a game it might make you smoke in reality and all the anti-smoking nazi types will come down on this game like a ton of bricks. Cool idea yeah but don't think so sadly =(

Where's the "No, because it's a superfluous feature, and Todd likes to remove superfluous (or even sometimes not superfluous) features"?

Basically, your poll is biased and you're trying to make anyone who votes "no" looks like the anti-smoking brigade. I wont play. 1/5

should we tell them to remove those from the game too ?

The mother took a deep breath. 'You can't give her that!' she screamed. 'It's not safe!' .
IT'S A SWORD, said the Hogfather. THEY'RE NOT MEANT TO BE SAFE. ...

In Scandinavia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snus is the culturally prominent form of enjoying nicotine products. For the Swedes keeping snus legal was a key issue when joining EU (similar enthusiasm as the Danes had for colouring their sausages).

So, in Skyrim there should be snus instead of smoked cigars/cigarettes. Not the chewed tobacco, but hacked leaves put under your upper lip...

I have just two points to make:

1. :dead: Smoking is injurious to health and leads to death.

2. :nope: Smoking does not make you look cool.

1. Living allways ends in death
2. I just quit smoking and have now been "sober" 2 months. As Dr. Tolkien with the mouth of wizard Gandalf told: "exhaling smoke takes out the shadows of the mind with it. If anything, smoking makes it easier to listen to stupidities without losing your temper."

I strongly agree with that opinion and base my belief in strong (ten years) experience of smoking cigars. Now been without any for 2 months and much more intolerant for stupidity.

Vakava is completely right on that. Thankfully I still keep the habit. People who are religiously for or against are a bit narrowminded in my opinion. Though I of course am baised towards the 'for' side.

This smoking in game thing though is not bad for your health and I can think of no greater bonding experience to smoke a cigar/pipe or whatnot with my character as they are doing it at the same time, all for the purpose of immersion and RP. I'm one of the crazys that is growing a beard for skyrim too! =P

Can't see any aesthetic benefits for my character to be a smoker and any game-play benefits like 'increased magic' or whatever would feel fake and convoluted. I suppose seeing certain NPCs puffing on a skooma pipe would be OK and may add to the atmosphere.

We could also put that under Alcohol as well with just a slight change... but don`t forget the 3. Can destroy families and fuels crimes. It`s just more sociably acceptable.

Sorry to go off topic but couldn`t resist that ;)

I think it'd be interesting, I RP'd an alcoholic in Oblivion,.He had to constantly have alcohol in him, that's all he was interested in. Steal, buy it, he didn't care....I can see being able to do something similar with smokable tobacco products in Skyrim, I'd like to be able to have as many RP devices as possible. I think it adds to replayability.

I don't want cigars/ cigarettes to be in.

Pipe smoking sounds like a good idea - but not for Skyrim in my opinion. Would fit better into Elsweyr.

I wish to limit my habit as a pleasure, not a necessity. In order to do so, I had to quit first completely and now I hope to be able to smoke an ocasional cigar without being forced to make it a daily habit - though I do have much less tolerance now towards disagreeing minds than when smoking daily.

Anyway, I suppose using snus is more Skyrimish than smoking.

No.
I have always seen Tamriel as a rather "clean" fantasy world. Little poverty and few diseases. Cigarettes fits better in gritty and dirty worlds like Fallout. (Though I have no idea why the people in Fallout want to smoke 200 year old cigarettes.)

The "dirtiest" I want to have in Skyrim is a small Skooma ring.

Since when does any pub allow indoor smoking?

Wouldn't it be pathetic for some big burly nord to care about second hand smoke, though?

Unnecessary, just like in real life.

But it's not real life and if u remove everything unnecessary u won't be left with much game...also bet alot of u anti smoking types take caffeine or alcohol...which is so much better.
The game has skooma which is akin to crack, why not a lil weed to puff in a pipe or cigar, tobacco plants where in the last game after all, it could even be part of alchemy making potion, paulices and prerolls.

Plus RPin an addict is interesting I've done it in every fallout I've played and would play the alckie skooma smoker if given the chance, choose the event to start or the reason you already are is great narrative in game.

Not really a necessary thing, but they had npcs smoking in fallout so I don't see why they couldn't do it for skyrim. As long as it's pipes though, cigarettes and cigars don't sound like they would fit in TES.

I think they can get away with smoking in game if it kind of fits the period. They should make them [censored] off expensive though. or extremley rare or something. on a side note, the anti smoking nazi scum can go and [censored] themselves. If you dont like it dont use it. simple.

Does it add to gameplay? No.

Should it be added? I don't care, but I would say "No" because then you would ask for second-hand smoke, coughing fits, and lung cancer simulation next :D
