Cities in Skyrim?

Didn't the GI Magazine tell of Dragon attacks, maybe the three other cities, were destroyed ?

Why would they limit themselves to JUST 5 massive cities? Thats a bit silly. I think that if there is a Dragon attack, the city will undergo a repairing state (UNLIKE Kvatch) and be usable again.

The image in the mag is based on http://www.imperial-library.info/content/empire-tamriel-zeph and the mag show more of Cyrodiil than Skyrim. The map was created for Oblivion.

The Pocket Guide to the Empire, 1st ed, have a different http://www.imperial-library.info/content/pocket-guide-empire-first-edition-skyrim. We can see where the Reach is on that map too (mentioned in the mag).

What is reach? Is that where throat of the world is? Where is solitude and winterhold on that map?

I don't mean ''Kvatch'' destroyed but beyond repair, kinda Vaporized by dragons.

Again, why would they limit themselves? I'm pretty sure they knew what a waste of space the UNEXPLORABLE ruins of Kvatch were. If there is an attack, i'm almost certain the city will repair.

I'm worried about how dragons can attack cities. When you say a "city can repair" do you mean from an in game attack? How would a repair work though? It would take way too long in game time for the city to repair so we're going to have wiped out cities for long stretches of time. Unless they magically repair/respawn in three game days and reset like dungeons in oblivion?

Solitude = Haarfingar and WinterHold is on both map at the same place.

The Reach is a region of Skyrim, close to the Hammerfell border. The Throat of the World is at Hrothgar, almost right in the middle of Skyrim.

Why does solitude have another name? Its same to assume that hrothgar is in the game then? Is that a city?

i think if either Solitude or Winter Hold is a major city, the other will have to be as well. they are rival cities, so it would make sense to have them both.
i also have a feeling dawnstar might be a ruin now.

Maybe. That would explain the lack of northern coastal cities. Perhaps the dragons originate from the very far north off the map.

Maybe one or more cities have been destoryed, like Kvatch in Oblivion?

Now with huge firebreathing monsters, i think we could expect to see things go up in flames

Edit: Currently im a little slow, a lot of guys allready posted this^^

Maybe there will be 5 massive cities, but the other ones will be still in the game just more townish than cities.

This. Maybe it's more Morrowind style cities, towns and settlements. Remember, Morrowind had 4 major cities.

200 years has passed since Oblivion. That map is, quite frankly, outdated.

It is nicer, but I always wondered where that map came from...
On the other hand, here's an old ulgy-looking map from http://s8.photobucket.com/albums/a39/mariedanj/Arena/?action=view¤t=SkyrimMap-1.png. Hehe.

If you look at the most recent maps the Imperial City isn't shown to be the size it is in comparison to Cheydinhal or Chorrol. I think that the five massive cities will be much like the Imperial city (relative, I'm sure that they won't be like Oblivions cities) and then the three small cities/towns will be Falkreath,Riften and Windhelm , just because they're on the edge of the map.

It would be nice if there were five massive cities and a number of smaller settlements ranging from hamlets to small towns. Villages didn't really seem to exist in Oblivion, or if they did there was rarely much use to them other than one basic quest.

Cyrodiil had a nice placement of the cities though. It seems skyrim has them all bunched together in certain parts of the map?

Ok thanks I see it now. What's hrothgar then? Someone said it was solitude. Are they one in the same? I don't see hrothgar on the arena map.

It's called High Hrothgar now, it's the big mountain in the center of Skyrim.

So solitude and hrothgar are two separate places and always have been?

The centre of Skyrim is mostly just sharp mountains, with cliffs and all the "Rockies postcard panorama" that goes with it, most cities seems to be at the bottom of valleys or on mesas. The terrain close to the frontiers (beside Cyrodiil) is easier to travel, that's why most cities are situated there. Well, if they keep with the lore, although the mag did say that Skyrim look like Alaska.

As for Solitude and Hrothgar. Totally different places, Solitude is actually a coastal city (top west of Skyrim), while High Hrothgar is in the middle of all the mountains...
