Citizens recognizing you if you were famous...HOW!?!?

Post » Fri Oct 22, 2010 6:21 pm

Again though ,its not that I dont want people to notice how uber good I am with the sword, I just dont want them to sound so stupid and artificial when doing so.

You got the point there, recognition must exist in-game but in a credible way.

I Like it but I would like to see a feasible reason as to why these people recognize me. Like after you do a few notable things have a artist come up and offer to paint you. And maybe have some one want to write a book about you and you could have different options on what to tell him about different events, they could range from the truth to a huge lie to a comedic farce of the true events. In his book he could have a sketching of you or a detailed picture of you.

Paintings and books are copied and reproduced and over time I would like to see you become famous in different regions because of this and have people come up and ask if your the hero from the book/painting they read/saw.

If you don't do the painting and/or book you could remain anomonous in towns and if you try to reveal who you are people most people should treat you with disbeleif.

If I am a high ranking member of a guild I want people associated with that guild to recognize me as that rank where ever I go, but common people or people in other guilds not associated with that guild should not know or care about my guild or rank within it.

Wow now I really like this idea. How cool would it be for a writer to ask your permission to write a book about you and you can reply with something implying 'make me famous', 'write about my deeds, but don't reveal who I am' or 'no, keep this matter a secret'

What's even weirder is that merchants don't buy stolen goods. I mean, I stole a [censored] spoon in someone's house and a merchant in the other town KNOWS that I stole it?

Guy: Hello.
Shopkeep: Hello there sir, what can I do for you?
Guy: Would you like to purchase this spoon?
Shopkeep: ...

I don't think the shopkeep cares if it's stolen or not at this point.

I think your right. I realized this after watching the movie 'Amadeus' (a movie about Mozart), and a lot of parts in that movie people didn't recognize who he was because there were no TV's or cameras.

well what i ment was the process could be like the news interview with sheperd in mass effect.

writer could ask "so when the dragon started to attack the town what were your thoughts as you charged it?"

you would then have different dialog options on what to tell him:

A: My first thoughts were i hope every one can get safely away from this beast so there will be no innocent blood shed
B: My first thoughts were i hope none of those stupid guards kill that dragon before i get there, i mean i AM the Dovakiin, it should be my honor. Not there's.
C: My first thoughts were i could really use a change of under garments right about now, damn that things huge!

you know various paths of conversation to get different feelings for different events. to get a RP vibe of your character. you could even get the first copy and see that the author wrote out your choices. he could even include a authors note at the end to give his impression of you at the end of it... what would be even nicer is to have people that read it treat you buy the choices you made in him writing it out. like have people comment on parts from it and congratulate, sneer, or laugh at you.

Remember, there are no TVs and no photographs.

I've never met Brad Pitt in real life, but if I see Brad Pitt in real life for the first time, I'm going to know it's him.
Why? Fame.
Your characters in Morrowind and Oblivion were famous. I don't see how that's any different.
Working as intended, IMO.

you stupid? You recignize him because you have seen him in movies! That way you know what he looks like!

no photographs.

They had a pretty good "picture" of the gray fox on those wanted posters...
Besides, I have my own statue!

Yeah, you make a decent point. It got annoying too. They should explain how everyone knows it, or atleast have them ask me if I am because surely I fit the descriptions...

I would much rather that they instead spent time on the guards that would know immediately if you had stolen something. If they can fix that I would be much much happier then if they fixed the part about my PC getting noticed. Also getting noticed by the general population should in some way ease the guards feelings towards you, right? After all if I am the hero of Kavach I simply can't be the thief they are looking for can I....

I wouldn't mind if a certain amount of time had passed, due to rumors and news having circulated. Them knowing that that particular (race) was the Hero, well...*shrug*
Maybe they should do that. You know, as an easter egg or a wink at the players. You show up and witness someone freaking out over someone who looks like an adventurer, but had nothing to do with it. I think that'd be neat.

However, if you'd done enough quests, or a particularly important one, you'd have the option to say a few different things if asked about any possible relation to your reputation.
"Hey, are you the one who killed that Dragon in Shady Forest?"
A) Yes, yes I am. What, you need help too?
B) What crap floweth from thyne mouth? Forsooth!
C) Why are you talking to me again?

Or something. :whistling:
