City + Landscape?

Post » Tue Nov 16, 2010 5:49 pm

In Oblivion, the cities and the landscape were separate. Would you like them to be connected, or disconnected. (It was sometimes funny to go to the short part of the wall in Cheydinhal and jump in or out using paintbrushes and lol'ing at walking through houses, but really, what do you want?

Yeah, I'd like to see them connected, but it doesn't bother me if they're not.

Connected, as they were rightly done in Morrowind. This closed city stuff was a travesty that should never have happened.

Hopefully the new engine will remove their lame excuse for having done it to begin with. Which turned out to be unnecessary anyway.

I'm sure they will. The smaller cities, at least.

It would be great if they were but if it's between that and my framerate, I choose the latter.

connected would be prefable but i think separate will make flame rates and load speed faster.

and i prefer faster flame rates and load times

I don't know... Morrowind way is cool and it allows levitation. But I think it would create a lot of issues.

Yes, it would be a lot better. But my framerate would be hurting probably so...

I would like it, but it's not too important. BUT --
REMEMBER -- More connection, less loading screens.

Like having a train of monsters follow you back into town.

Hmm... I actually like both, so I suppose that I would prefer a combination of the both. Some cities that are closed, and some that are open, depending on their size and role, etc

I know it's a bit off topic (my apologizes), but that's one thing that I think they should change. Monsters shouldn't ALWAYS attack on sight and follow you everywhere you go, + if several different monsters start following you they might as well fight each other.

Exactly, it could also lead to the death of many NPCs and AI issues.

In a perfect world they'd all be connected, although I could forgive some of the larger, more fortified cities being separate cells.

I'd prefer connected, but a better done unconnected would work as well. Make the loading entrance be the entire city limit as opposed to a door so you could run in from anywhere, levitate in, hop a wall and still load into the city.

I don't mind. Obviously i'd prefer it, but if it hurts performance too badly; then no thanks.

Pretty much. I would rather have the game run well then have open cities.

Even if they make the closed city nonsense mistake again, people will just mod and fix it. Although the lack of levitation was probably one of my biggest disappointments from Oblivion.

If it's feasible from a technical standpoint, then obviously I'd prefer an entirely seamless overworld.

However, I'd really love to see some huge, dense cities, the kind you could explore for hours without seeing everything. If it meant having them as separate areas, I'd been fine with that.

Either way, I'm happy, as long as there are plenty of small backwater towns and villages dotted around that are seamless.

It would be great if it could be pulled off without much of a performance hit. If it causes lag, however, then I'd rather see them separate. Personally, I don't mind sitting through a brief loading screen.

I voted no because of the lag in open cities when running high res texture packs, environmental mods, better cities etc. Anyone tried better open cities for oblivion, or gone to the capital in nehrim? my fps drops by like, 20 compared to cities in their own worldscape.

I wouldn't have a problem if their connected as its one less load screen but if it hurts load times then I'll prefer how it was done in Oblivion.
