City of the Hunted

"My signal will be simple - if I think we have a chance, I'll sling them, otherwise I'll just lay low and watch. If we get dispsersed, I'll move to teh vivinity of the statue of Akatosh."

Once she had spoken, Fara quickly climbed to the roofs, moving toward the chapel and the citadel. Carefully staying below the rooftops line to avoid presenting a silouhette, either to the towers and their inhabitants or the incoming hunting party. Finally picking a rooftop offering a convinent view on the town's main street, she croucher against a chimney, keeping low in the chimney's shadow, curious to see how those hunters were outfitted. Would they be on the efficent or fancyful side of equipment ?

Jak glanced around, noticing snowfall. He knew none of the people in the group were farmers or anything without combat experience, which led to Jak realizing that they were obviously the most challenging prey the noble had put in the game. Jak then stated clearly, "With them hunting us, seeing that we are all trained professionals in our chosen career, they'll not be wearing flimsy furs or iron. The hunters will have something that allows them to move quickly and effortlessly, not something that'll weigh them down; those men will be wearing a hard but flexible armor, almost like Elven or Mithril. Their weapons are probably top notch, from elven all the way to daedric. Let's get moving."

Eric nodded, then said, "Oh yeah, everyone, he knows what he's talking about." He laughed and patted his brother on the back, "I'm just kidding around with you, brother. Just like old times."

And so they went. Carefully Fanier scanned the rooftops and alleyways, getting to know the area. As they neared the end of the narrow street where it opened into the plaza, Fanier stopped. "Hold on," He said. He looked over to the top of the building on his left, and there was Fara, crouching behind a large chimney. Reaching into his pocket, he pulled out his slate knife, felt the edges, and knew that it would come in handy in the fight.

Fanier looked behind him to the others. "Everyone Ready?"

[OOC : Seer has litlle in the way of combat experience, and Fara's one isn't something she has displayed much in the five years since she left the Legion]

Setting confortably next to her chimney, Fara watched, the hunters, or at least some of them, should soon be in sight, unless they decided to wander through the meandering backstreets of the town. She made sure her sling was ready, picking for her first shot a jagged, but well-balanced, piece of rock, sized like a large hen's egg. If one of the hunters was lightly armored or bare-headed, it would hurt him a lot. If his companions tunred out to be lightly equiped enough to be dealt with barehanded.

As some snowflakes started drifting, Fara smiled. The snow would impair visibility, ruining the edge of bows and crossbows compared to her sling, shileding her from whoever might shoot from the towers. And if it turns heavy enough, I might be able to simply slip out unseen. won't do anything for getting supplied though. I don't care what the other will think, if I can get a corpse and some time, I'll go for bosmer-style supplies.

Seer nodded nervously as Fanier asked if they were ready. When Fara ran off to roof-climb, Seer stayed behind. Though she was an excellent climber, she felt exposed on rooftops rather than safe, and, like some of the others, she imagined it would have its own risks. Better down here where there are many other targets... she thought.

The tiny argonian listened intently to Jak's assessment of the situation, and dipped her head in a nod of approval. She expected as much to be true. Her eye slingered for a moment on his unusual brother- the man seemed positively excited to be in this situation.

He'll be the first to go, Gods willing... the argonian thought humourously rather than cruelly. If he's so excited about it all... But she found herself liking the Nord.

-----------------

Raz, for her part, was already out of the door and scaling the building when Fanier spoke. She came up behind Fara, her body hunched, making her seem smaller. Her tail swished in anticipation as she knelt on the other side of the fireplace, one hand resting lightly against the stone as she peered out amongst the snow.

"Good coverage..." she muttered. She glanced at Fara. "You sling, I'll jump..." she warned the bosmer. She could break necks pretty well given the right amount of momentum- provided most conveniently by this height.

Fainer heard distant voices. Not wanting to expose himself by looking around the corner, he found a large crack in the wall and looked through it.

Out of the street on the other side of the plaza emerged seven hunters. Most of them were clad in full chainmail, minus the helmet. One had a mithril cuirass along with the chainmail, had a nice looking elven shortsword. Another, who seemed like the leader, had full elven armor, including shield and helmet, and wielded with skill and fierceness a glass longsword. The others had simple iron and steel longswords, while one carried a bow. Out of all of them, only the leader looked like he could do any harm.

"Have a look," Fanier whispered to the others, while he stepped back from the crack and looked up at Fara and Razaline.

As the group of hunters showed up, Fara couldn't hold a fierce grin. Though one couldn't tell for the rest, this group seemed to fall squarely in the 'more sadistic than skilled' category. The mail, with it's padding underneath, would probably defeat her stones, but the lone archer was bare-headed. Probably to get a better sight.

Fara started to arm her sing, keeping it below the rooftop line, before standing to unleash her shot - keeping most of her body covered behind the chimney. The rock flew straight, catching the archer unaware. If the man didn't react really quickly, he would end up with a nasty piece of rock smashing in his face...

As she stood up, Fara also scanned quickly he nearby streets - this particular group didn't seem very skilled, but others, better ones might trail behind, using them as a bait.

Fanier looked back through the crack, just as Fara's well-placed stone bashed the archer's face in. He couldn't help but smile as the man fell straight to the ground, without so much as a twitch. The other men looked as if they had just soiled themselves, but the leader simply raised his shield to protect against any more projectiles that might be hurled his way. "It came from that direction!" He yelled to his men.

Well, he's a bit slow, isn't he? He just told us that he knew where we were, Fanier thought. The hunters slowly moved in their general direction, but had no idea exactly where there prey was hiding.

Fanier gripped his slate knife, and shifted his gaze to the hunter in the mithril armor with the elven shortsword. "The one in the mithril is mine," Fanier told the others.

OOC: For future reference: Fanier holds a sword in an arcane manner, kind of backwards, in the sense that the blade is pointing behind him, or upwards, parrallel to his arm. Those who have played The Force Unleashed or Assassin's Creed will know what I'm talking about. Here's a pic from the force unleashed to show what I mean. OOC: I'll be the one to describe the next group of hunters. Just like I described them with Jak.

IC:
Jak saw the hunters steadily moving down the deserted street, looking in every nook and cranny for their prey. Most of the ones in the back were fidgety and constantly fiddling with their equipment. Those buggers, they've got some pretty decent weapons. I'll take them first. A grim grin sprung from his lips.

---

Eric was hiding inside a nearby building, the door was barely closed so he could tackle one or two of the hunters to the ground. It had been a while since Eric had been in combat. He knew it would be a wonderful way to rid himself of the rust that had gathered over the years.

Eric whispered very quietly, "Let's do this."

[OOC : holding a blade that way means cutting attacks only - drawing the edge along the target to slice it. That won'd do much good on mail and even worse on elven armor, unless you're aiming for the soft parts]

As the archer dropped like a poleaxed bull, Fara showed up - still keeping the chimney between her and the most likely places another archer could have sneaked. Let's make them mad enough that they won't think about the bow or whatever noise the others might do..

"Hey big boys, come up there and show a little elf girl you're grown men, not kiddies wetting the breeches you've stolen from your dad." Fara rocked her hips in a positively obscene fashion and motioned them up with equally rude gestures, before letting loose another slingshot, aimed at the hunter in mithril cuirass. The shot rang aloud on the metal - unable to defeat the armor, but strong enough to be unpleasant.

If that don't make them angry, I don't know what would. Come on, wanabe rapists, my pals are ready...

OOC: Fanier's previously mentioned fighting style may be based on cuts and slashes, however, you may note that on the backswing Fanier can make a thrusting attack. Also, Fanier will almost always aim for exposed areas such as the throat, underarms (in the case of armor without mail), and possibly wrists and the achilles heel. He may also attack the face/head if his opponent has no helm. He will almost never attack an area prtected by armor, as his technique is based on taking the opponent down as quickly and efficiently as possible. Fanier's way of holding his weapon also allows him to punch with his weapon hand without compromiing his grip.

IC: The hunter with the mithril chestplate growled at Fara after she slung a rock at him. He motioned for his men to follow, and they walked toward the street where Fanier and the others were hiding. Fanier gripped his knife, and just as the hunter in the mithril passed him by, he pounced. "aaaaaarrRRRGGHHHH!" Fanier grunted in exertion as he tackled the hunter, and as they both fell down, he plunged the knife deep into the frightened hunter's throat. The hunter fell on his back, while Fanier rolled as he landed as to recover his footing. He quickly picked up the hunter's elven shortsword, faced the other hunters, and smiled as the fallen hunter lay on the ground, gasping for breath as he bled out.

As Fanier rushed out, dispatching one of the huter, Fara quickly moved on the roof, getting a better angle for supporting shoots. The unexpected assault had left the less skilled hunters as dumbfounded as they were by her initial attack. But the leader was visibly cut from a sturdyer cloth.

Fara send a third shot at him, as he had moved his shield to face the more dangerous melee assaults. The shot rang on the helmet. Once again the armor deflected the blow, though the ringing of striken metal wouldn't do any good to the hunter's concentration.

Jak ran up and snatched the Elven longsword from Fanier's hand, "I told you to give me a sword!" Jak shouted down at Fanier. He moved over to two of the hunters, towering over them, and he slung his blade at one of them. The fidgety hunter didn't have time to react and the blade met the soft flesh of his neck. He dropped a steel shortsword and Jak kicked it towards Fanier.

Blood splattered all over Jak's furs as the hunter's head rolled under the awning of a house. The other hunter, who was on the left side of Jak, spun on his heels and sped away from the attack. Jak looked up at Fara and shouted, "Take him out, now!"

---------

Eric saw a man dressed in chainmail standing outside the door. Eric took his chance and dove out of the building, tackling the sorry sap to the ground. A sickening crack came from the man's spinal column and the hunter went limp. Eric jumped up from the ground, but not before grabbing the mace the hunter was holding so loosely in his grip, and ran after another hunter.

Watcing the fight, Fara noticed with disgust Hak's grabbing of Fanier's sword. There's at least the archer's sword free to grab, and the moron chose to disarm an ally. We'll really need to get him rid of his delusions of command before he pulls another 'me want, you give' antic and gets someone killed... But he' right about stoping that idiot before he brings the others...

Movin to the edge of the roof, Fara launched another shot, aiming low and picking the heaviest of her stones. The shot hit straight at the knee's back, breaking the leg with a nasty, crushing sound, sending the hunter sprawling to the ground, his sword escaping from his grip.

Seeing this, Fara quickly jumped from her roof down to the street, rushing to the fallen man and kicking his head with all the stength she could muster while he was trying to recover. As the stunned hunter flopped back to the ground, she picked the sword and performed an estoc strike at the exposed face behind the mail cowl, letting her weight drive the blade deep home.

the archer, the mithril cuirass, one sword, the mace, and the runner, that's five down - two more to go, including the leader. Let's look how they're faring. and maybe poke some steel in a back if the ocasion presents itself...

Fanier shook his head as he picked up the steel shortsword from the ground. Looking aroud him, he noted who was engaging who, and saw that the leader was running right at him

"AAARRGGHH!" the hunter yelled at he bashed Fanier with his shield, sending him to the ground. As the hunter was rearing back for a finishing blow, Fanier rolled back onto his feet. The hunter took a big swing with his sword, which Fanier jumped back to avoid. His opponent lost balance a bit, and Fanier took the opportunity to deliver a strong kick to the back of the hunter's calf, which was covered only by mail. The hunter fell to one knee, but before Fanier could finish him, turned and kicked Fanier's legs out from under him. As he fell on his back Fanier's sword was knocked a short distance away.As he reached for his sword, Fanier noticed that the hunter's armor did not cover his ankle or heel. He was able to grasp the sword, but his assailiant kicked him in the ribs. Despite the pain, Fanier swung his steel blade into the hunter's achilles tendon, slicing deep into the muscle.

The leader of the hunters screamed in pain as he fell to his knees, then onto his side. We could ask this man some questions, find out what he knows about all this, Fanier thought. Taking this into consideration, he struck the man with the hilt of his sword, knocking him unconscious.

Fanier picked up the glass longsword that his opponent had dropped, walked over to Jak, and offered it to him. "If you don't mind," Fanier requested. "I'd like my sword back."

Jak handed the Elven shortsword back to Fanier, "Now that's a nice blade. Don't see why you'd want to give it up, but alright." Jak said as he gripped his new, shiny sword. What a dumb ass. I oughta slap some sense into him. This blade could cut through bone at the right speed.

-----

Eric looked around, not noticing anymore hunters running about. Eric laughed heartily and said, "Well that should do the trick, eh Jak? You did a good bit of swordplay back there. You did good, for a kid! Hahaha!! Let's get this stuff off of them and hide these bodies."

-----

After hearing that remark from his brother, Jak had to say something back, "Shut the hell up, you drunkard! This blade will remove your empty head from your water filled shoulders!" Jak bent down, grabbed the sheath of the glass longsword, and shoved his blade into it.

The more he opens his mouth, the more I think his fashion would be improved with some feathers. When you're trained with short and light blades, that glass sword is a big, clumsy hacking tool and less effective than an elven shortsword. And there's still one missing... Moving back toward the group she voiced her opinion "They were seven of the cretins - and only six deads. The last one didn't run my way, odds are he took a powder through your side. Maybe the others will catch him, maybe not, I'd rather play it safe and assume he's running to mommy. I don't think we'll have much time to hide the bodies, especially if they're leaving a blood trail any eyes could track."

Moving back to the downed archer, Fara snatched his bow and quiver, a sturdy steelwood bow with steel-tipped arrows. She added the steel shortsword and dagger and their sheaths, along with a small wineskin the man add carried. To finish up she pulled out the man's chaimail to pick the thick padded wool jacket he wore under his mail. If i make a run out of the city, I'll need all the warmth I can get. The mail would be nice to have, but it's noisy and smelly, I need discretion more than protection. The man's linen tunic was picked up too - it would make a makeshift bag. Then the man's purse. The coind would be of no se now, but if she could make it to a city, they would be needed.

Then Fara loooked used the longsword from the second man she had killed as a makeshift cleaver, taking out both legs, and separating the thighs, packing them into the shirt. I'll carve them up into something more suitable and ditch the bones when I get a chance to rest. Pity they're no more bosmers among us, they would understand better. Blah, they can dislike what I'm doing to all their hearth's content, I don't give a damn.".

Her looting done and packed, Fara used the dagger to quickly prepare a pile of small cuts of meat, as the emptynes in her belly reminded her that quite some time had passed since her last meal. I'd rather eat it cooked, but at leat it's warm. But a tad on the chewy side, I'll have to go for small cuts, especially as they'll probably get frozen. And with a bit of luck, finding the carved body will give at least some of them second thoughts. Getting nibbled on by a cannibal savage isn't as fun as hunting unsarmed peoples. A pity I didn't have time to have the body prepared as if it was some hunted game, it wold have been an even more repulsive.. Feeling better now she quickly moved to the others.

After taking his sword back, Fanier walked over to his first kill, and relieved him of his mithril chestplate. While he was putting it on, he noticed how it didn't make a sound. The wonder of mithril, silent as the dead, he thought. Fanier stooped down again to pick up the sheath for his sword, and noticed that it was to be strapped around his back, not his waist. He put it on while walking over to Fara, who was cutting up one of the hunters. "Cut some for me, too,"he requested. His wife had gotten him accustomed to the bosmer ways, and was fine with eating a man.

Fanier looked up at the sky. The sun was starting to set. He turned and adressed the group. "Let's find a place to rest for the night."

OOC: I'm terribly confused as to where I should start, so forgive me if I'm alittle rusty. It's been a while...

IC:

As usual, Isriil kept to himself, smiled uncomfortably at each passing captive, and fiddled with the itchy fur cuirass protecting his bare skin from the unforgiving cold. These barbarians! Savages! I'm better off cutting my own wrists. No-- I must find Isibael. I'll simply have to cope with them.

OOC: Sorry for the extremely short post my input is limited to library time. I'll post tommorrow.

No one's been on here in forever. Sure it started out strong, but it got old too quick for some people. Maybe I'll bring this back to life once we have a lot more people to keep it going. I don't want it to suffer like this. Best to put it out of its misery.
