Modding is about freedom. That's its *thing*. You can't suddenly say "No, actually, I don't like other people being free to create what they want", because then suddenly you're restricting it. I don't like mods that give you powerful items easily obtainable from the start of the game, do I want them gone, or banned? No, I simply don't use them. I don't like mods that break lore. Should they also be banished? You cannot have it both ways. Just because something does not fit into your tastes does not mean that it has no right to exist.

This.

Yeah, there are alot of mods that I think are pretty dumb. But I'm also sure that there are a good number who'd think the same thing about the mods I choose to use. So many different viewpoints about what is "right", you couldn't possibly get a good result by having an "official" mod system.

That's some serious angst you've got.

Have you considered turning off the advlt content filter? KABLAM...bye bye nvde mods. Or is this just a rant for ranting's sake?

Yeah, I was just going to say; there is an 'advlt content' filter that you can tell to not show mods like that. Then you only have 'normal' mods without all that nonsense. Though it is weird the sheer number of them people make. >.>

It would be nice to see some kind of organizational system for mod downloading or rating. I still have many folders filled with mods I have downloaded for OB but never used. however, I doubt that implementing such a system is Beth's priority right now.

Regardless, if they do not do it, we are sure to see convenient systems developed by devout modders, such as OBMM and Wyrebash.

The only thing thats wrong with the current mod system is the mod order can sometimes really screw things up in game. I can deal with that though, because when you have 200+ mods activated at a time you can expect some overlap in some things.

With the currect way, we can have access to all the files as well which I think is one of the most important things to modding! Whats modding if we cant add/remove and part of the game we want!?

I don't know how many mods there are for Civ 5, but every game from MW on has had at least 1-2k mods released for it.

Turns out TESNexus has a statistics page.

Unsure if this is including uploaded images (and acknowledging that many mod pages have multiple files on them), but...

25,500 files adding up to 305Gb of data. 111M downloads by 1.3M people. And that's just the MW/OB site. :)

(Fallout 3 site has 11.5k files / 167Gb; FO:NV, 5.4k files / 73Gb. Whee!)
