Civil War! For the empire? Or For the resistance?

Post » Wed Mar 09, 2011 10:43 am

So, we know there is a civil war going on in Skyrim. Will you help skyrim leave the empire, or fight to stay in it? What consequences do you people think will come from choosing a side? And how important is this to the ultimate goal of slaying Alduin?

If we do choose a side, I'm gonna side with the Empire unless changes in the story ruin the empire for me. In the end, I expect that the civil war ends when Alduin comes by and blows crap up, and that way the game will end on a single path.

I really hope they don't make us choose a side. Or if they do, they add a middle faction or two. I know my characters wouldn't fight for either Skyrim or the Empire.

For the Empire, because in truth they aren't even bad. Quite the opposite. They let conquered countries keep their religion and governing system, when they could so easily force their own stuff on the locals.

For the glory of the Empire.

Actually, the EMpire is quite decadent, leaded by powerful warchiefs. Though I suppose I will support it. The union makes us strong, you know.

if we have a choice i want a revolution that way if we do choose that path Bethesda can create something from that as a sequel. if we choose the rebellious side i say our consequence is that if people know were with them the empire people will hate u.but if we re mane with the empire i say we should have the rebels hate us.

I think you need to chose a side. Here is how I see it...
Your dragon born, only you can slay Alduin, but it seems like something you can't do all alone.

I think the you'll have to petition for help from the leader of Skyrim. One problem though... There is a giant civil war going on. Boom time to choose sides so you can get the help you need.

As for who I'll choose, I'm not sure yet. I like the Empire and what is stands for, but fighting for the resistance would be such an interesting dynamic! Especially if the resistance is in over their heads. You could make such a difference.

I'm inclined to side with the rebels, given the negative connotations associated with “empire”.

From what I understand, the empire is in decline and weaker than it has been for a long time. Perhaps it would be best for Skyrim to forge out on it's own?

I think they're most likely to have 4 sides. Nuetral, unionists( those are against the war and want to re-unite peacfully), the rebels, and the empire.
Personally I'm playing in the empire side, but will eventually play everything after a few playthroughs.

My character believes in people working out their differences and getting along...for the greater good. If there's a path she can follow to make that happen, that's what she'll do.

That would be interesting to Sid with a peaceful faction also. But the Elder Scrolls say the war will happen, so it might be a little pointless

Easily? I doubt the Dunmer would just sit idly by as the Emperor tried to supplant the Tribunal. The Tribunal certainly wouldn't either! Just because an empire doesn't try to exert total control over a people doesn't mean they're nice, they could just be acting "good" since they think it would be too much trouble to clamp down on the whole population.

Yeah, the Empire isn't really bad, but they aren't good either, just greedy. They're got their pockets in all the diamond, glass, and ebony mining in Morrowind, and I doubt they pay fair price for mining rights in a country they conquered.

Considering my character is a Nord, He will probably follow his fellow Nords blindly despite his own morals and values, until perhaps a twist...? :obliviongate:

I've actually been thinking about this a lot- choosing a side in the civil war can easily be solved when the war ends without result to combat the rising influence of the dragons. This is more likely than actually ending the story in different ways (two or more) and having another Warp of the West incident- which I think you can get away with only using once in your lore anyways...

I really hope they don't make us choose a side. Or if they do, they add a middle faction or two. I know my characters wouldn't fight for either Skyrim or the Empire.

I also agree with this- my characters would probably remain neutral, but if they had to side, I guess it would depend on my style of character. If I were playing a Dunmer or an Argonian, who have historically been distant in their relationship to the Imperial system, I might side with the secessionists. If I'm an Imperial, however, this is less likely to happen. It all depends on the character, not my own objective viewpoint. Personally, however, I would side for the resistance. From what I'm hearing about the post Obvlivion Crisis Empire, they've become more corrupt and aggressive than before- and I was already ill at ease with them over their continued occupation of Argonia. IMO

Yes, the war will still happen but people will still try to stop it peacefully. And others still will not care who wins.
