Civil War v Main Quest

Post » Mon May 13, 2013 3:38 am

Before I can really enjoy a game to it's fullest and try to do everything, which in Skyrim is hardly a realistic goal I know, I have to beat a game because I don't really feel like I've gotten my money's worth out of it. So I'm basically focusing on just the Main Quest, but I also find myself wanting to play out the Civil War as well.

I know a lot of people have griped that the Civil War is boring and repetitive and while I can see that I also really feel like I'm contributing, and I'm making choices and decisions that influence things, while, so far, in the Main Quest someone is always telling me what to do next. Go to Whiterun, go to High Hrothgar, visit Delphine etc. It also seems like the Civil War is as big a deal as stopping Alduin. Could just be because it's spread out all over Skyrim, but it feels a bit more important than the Companions or the Mage's Colege.

So I'm kicking it to you guys. Which do you prefer, the Civil War or the Main Quest?

If you focus only on the Main Quest you aren't getting your moneys worth out of the game.

That said, the Civil War questline isn't as good as the Main Quest (it's a bit more formulaic for one).

I think the Civil war is more fun than the main quest because I enjoy killing Imperials.

I would say main quest line as the civil war gets repetitive and as someone who never fast travels it got very annoying having to go from 1 place on 1 side of he map to the other side over and over. I started almost getting he thought of... Fast travelling *Shudders*

You'd think with the amont of civil war discussion in this board that the whole Alduin destroying the world thing isn't the MQ at all. But they're both incredibly boring storylines anyway.

I hate to break it to you, but finishing the MQ can hardly be called "beating Skyrim". It's only a small part of the game, if all you do is the MQ then you've seen nothing - and like Jagar said, you're definitely not getting your money's worth.

I like neither questline. Civil War is too repetitive, capture this fort, then the next and the next. A False Front was fun, so was Compelling Tribute. I hoped for more quests like these two. Then again, I'm just a common soldier, no wonder they send me to do the most menial tasks.

MQ was better because I learned a few things about dragons, the Thalmor and the Blades. Meeting the leader of the Greybeards was a fascinating experience. Sadly, getting pushed around by Delphine wasn't very enjoyable...

Out of the two I'd probably choose CW, if only to avoid Delphine.

To tell the truth, I'd have preferred it if the Civil War was Skyrim's main questline (more fleshed out, of course). I like playing as an ordinary person caught up in the tide of events, divine prophecies aren't really my thing.

I don't really bother with either anymore TBH. Done them once, that's it.

I swear if i see another civil war thread.. :swear:

enough with that stuff, seriously dont people find anything else to discuss in skyrim? they picked one of the most non interesting small pitiful questlines in the game and made a million thread about it.

I enjoyed the CoW questline more than i enjoyed the civil war. there i said it.

Civil War was done in a very linear and lazy way, really unimaginative and a bit of a let down, I would focus on the MQ and leave the CW for something to do when you have time on your hands.

I agree that the CW was way too linear. The MQ was descent. I was expecting more, but as said earlier, the MQ and the CW are a small part of Skyrim as a whole.

Been playing for over 12 months, done MQ twice CW once.

As has been said, neither is compelling. Though in the MQ you get to meet

Spoiler

The CW is very linear and thus quite boring.
