Civil war

Theorically I agree with you, but the Septim dinasty (cursed may be) sure did an awful job in creating a viable Empire. Cultural and religious domination, conquests by force, egomaniacal leaders, racism and an overwhelming sense of superiority certainly isn't going to cause much sympathy amongst the masses.

I don't agree with the cultural and religious domination; Morrowind had its unique culture practically untouched by the imperial presence, which was bureacratric and military only (and you can consider that military presence as a peacekeeping force).
What happens when the empire pulls out (or crumbles)? Black Marsh invades Morrowind, the Summerset Isles invade Valenwood, civil war breaks out in Skyrim... I think that an imperial military presence would have prevented all of that and generally just kept the peace.
As for the rest; well some Nibenese sure were arrogant but it never bothered me (or my Colovian char :D), and as far as I could tell the leaders (i.e. the emperors) were wise and even prophetic (case in point: releasing the Nerevarine). Just don't mention Jagar Tharn...

To put a RL example, I also agree with Napoleon to a degree, but I'd have joined the spanish side (MY side) of our Independence War (yes, we spanish had one, too...)

sorry i didnt read through the whole thing maybe somebody mentioned it already but wasnt the civil war thing like inside Skyrim. game starts with the king dieing and probably all the other rulers of other cities want the throne. it is not skyrim versus empire - its civil war - its inside their own country fighting among themselves.

rant over

Down with Imperialism! No to Nordic Sovereignty! Res Publica! :lmao:

Seriously for me it depends on the people in each faction, in New Vegas I hated the Legion after encountering Vulpes Inculta in Nipton.

There is a civil war inside Skyrim, but it has 2 groups after the King dies. One that favours Imperials, the other who doesn't. The question is if it is that black & white, maybe there are more groups.

Eh, my Altmer character seems to have decidedly un-Imperial opinions... In Morrowind I eventually slaughtered Fort Buckmoth in its entirety over some more or less imagined insult. And in Oblivion I massacred Skingrad. I like to think it is the same genocidal High-Elf, waltzing maniacally through Tamrielic history. Seemed very fitting when he assumed the mantle of "Prince of Madness".
So I guess I will side with whoever, and eventually grow powerful and bored enough to start up with political activism with claymores again.
At least, I like to think he has some political drive behind it all. Maybe he's just crazy and homicidal.

As long as the guards you meet on the road stick the point of a sword to your throat and demand to know Loyalist or Rebel, rather than 'Hail, citizen', then I'll be happy.

Well, I'll mention http://www.imperial-library.info/content/oblivion-madness-pelagius then...("será por ejemplos", as we'd say here... :) ). Don't think that the Empire was much more peaceful when the Septims had the power...that book is a nice example of that.

Vvanderfell had built on it 5 Imperial forts in the 40 years (or less, I don't remember now) that was open to foreigners. And they also put an Imperial Legion garrison in Morrowind's own capital (Mournhold). Yes, you can say (as any Imperial would surely say) that they put them in order to keep peace. I say that it's extremely suspicious that the forts were built just near each major city, and in the capital itself. Oh, and the biggest and most inportant fort (Ebonheart) was built near the biggest and most important city (Vivec). How casual, isn't it? It's like they'd like to have an asset if something dangerous or revolutionary happens there....

And as I said in another post, (about the cultural invasion), there are many ways to do it. Not always it has to be imposed quickly and by force. You could simply introduce a foreign culture and religion in a region, then get the people to be used to it, and gain adepts until they both become major. Slow, but effective.

I agree peace must be kept, but it's a bitter choice to make, at least with the current Empire layout.

P.D: As a curious note (and continuing my RL example), the french also entered Spain "just to go though it and attack Portugal" (which was England's ally)... get my point? ;)

Yo tambien ;)

Fixed :) (The "Tu y" was not necessary).

As for me I don't want the empire in my life anymore. Imperials are just as egotistical as the arrogant altmer

If they do that, then I'll certainly play anti-Imperial :D

I am all for union, but the empire is ruled by a dictator favoring a single race over others, which is a disgusting practice, the empire must fall.

We must stay strong in this dark hour. The empire has stood thousands of years and brought peace and prosperity throughout the realm. it cannot fall. We cannot let it happen.

Long live the empire!

I would like to think of it as being Democracy versus Nobility over taxation for an unpopular cause, such as forcing the Nine upon the population.

The early Middle Ages weren't really anarchy. While Roman authority collapsed it was just replaced with a German structure upon the old system. That being said, as a loyal imperial I'm for the Empire.

(Hell, if anything, it's Cyrodil's local culture that's being invaded by the provinces! Bravil and Leyawin from Elsewyr and Black Marsh, Cheydinal from Morrowind, Anvil from Hammerfell and Bruma from Skyrim)

Well Anvil was the coolest looking city so thats okay.

I might support a break down of the empire, cause it would shake up the Elder Scrolls game's if the world was plummeted to a period of new lows. It would make some nice games.

As I'm not going to play a nord I don't see any reason to get involved in their civil war. I would likely remain neutral, siding with the faction in control of the area I happen too be in.

The Septims are dead. And with them, all claims of neccessity or legitimacy of the Empire. Burn it down. Down to the ground.

I haven't read the novel, so I'll need to see more of the new Imperial Empire for myself before making a decision.
