Civil War, What Could Have Been?

Post » Mon Mar 18, 2013 11:34 am

If he has the same amount of troops? How shouldn't he be able to win if they have the same? Also, I doubt Ulfric lacks problems with supplies. It is Skyrim after all.

I'm talking about Tulius, not Ulfric the only advantage Ulfric has is that bandits don't attack nord caravans because every other caravan lead by another race is a target because stormcloaks don't care about them, as mentioned by a NPC in windhelm and Ulfric has the home turf factor whereas Tulius has to worry about Forsworn attack Imperial caravans and the harsh mountain paths leading into skyrim can end up being a trader's death from dragons, animals, bandits etc etc. The only real disadvantage Ulfric has is that he doesn't know how to save money and put every last septim in the Windhelm treasury and possibly the other Hold's treasuries into the war effort.

Histories greatest leaders have often if not always been good generals.

Exactly for instance George washington was a smart leader yet he was a terrible tactician but the point is you don't need to be a good general to pick good generals.

Did you read my edited post? It has some changes that show some other disadvantages Ulfric could and probably is dealing with.

Also, (this is a joke) Ulfric has to deal with an annoyingly high rate of dragon attacks inside Windhelm as opposed to Solitude. That could be just in my game of course.

That is a gameplay mechanic, doesn't equal lore both sides have to worry about Dragons.

The problem is that Tulius doesn't really have a full regiment of soldiers

They basically have the same amount of men.

As I said, it was a joke, it wasn't an actual point of mine.

To the legion that small group that Tulius commands is a small detachment, its not a full regiment.

A good general like him can/should easily adapt. I've never heard him complain about it.

He was almost master stroked by Tullius, and with a little luck (Alduin), lives to fight another day, and holds off one of the Legion's best generals. Until the Dragonborn turns the tide for one side. Also, this can't be counted against Tullius or Ulfric, because lets face it. They couldn't stop the Dragonborn, he is the player and the player usually is unstoppable. Oh, and he's Dragonborn...

Also, I can't say that the Dragonborn knows all the laws and customs. I don't, and not everybody does. So I can't just say he does because he is Dragonborn. Going by a players Dragonborn is different, because I don't know you. Maybe you have the potential to be a great political and military leader, but I wouldn't know that. So yeah, maybe this argument isn't for you.I agreed on that. But being a catalyst doesn't make you High King material.
I am history major at st. Johns university, I specialize in Roman military history and Greek mythology. I by NO means am a genius, but the military strategies used in game were atrocious. I would easily wreck Ulfric and tullious easily on the battle field.

There wouldn't have been dragons appearing if Balgruuf didn't send the player to do that mission. Now I understand why Ulfric wants to shame him.

So? If he needs more men than Ulfric, then that means Ulfric's a lot better than we thought. They have about the same amount of men to work with, and Ulfric has him locked in a stand still. What does it matter if he doesn't have full support? That just shows his limits.

Yea its plain to see there is no actual use of tactics used in any of the battles, which really annoyed me.

Or it just means they are tied and Ulfric's only advantage is having a better supply line.

You realize in game tactics aren't lore accurate?

Well those two wouldn't have been fighting in the first place if the rest of the Empire's military force wasn't in shambles during the great war. Say Imperator how would you dealt with that? Decimation?

That's the point though. I can't say everyone's Dragonborn is you. I agree that their strategies in game aren't that complex. But if you were allowed to fight them with your own knowledge, yeah my little brother could probably wipe the floor with both of them. I doubt the in game strategies are anywhere close to their actual intelligence.

I like your major though.

Tullius is the one with the more economically thriving holds.

Its actually more of the empire is focused on reinforcing the borders to southern Tamriel because they are about to launch a massive counter attack on the Dominion as stated by Tulius.

Tulius is also the one who has to worry about bandits and forsworn whereas Ulfric doesn't because bandits don't attack Nord caravans in stormcloak territory.

Well they wouldn't send Tullius without enough troops to win. They gave him what they thought would be enough troops to defeat Ulfric, and that obviously didn't turn out to be enough, as Ulfric was holding them off.
