A civil werewolf discussion.

Post » Tue Oct 18, 2011 9:45 am

I have been given permission to create a thread for discussing the recent confirmation that there will be no werewolves, on one condition: we need to be civil, for once. The mods are fed up with spam, so let's give them a break, eh?

So, I think that Beth tried to implement lycanthropy and made some progress, but they weren't able to finish in time. Hopefully, if that's the case, they won't let that work go to waste and they will use it later on in DLC.

Lol @ "For once, the mods are fed up with spam"
Haha, they have to close spam threads every single day, I'm pretty sure they start hating it as soon as they became mods.

I am truly hoping that due to a possible lack of time they HAVE had time to do some work on Lycanthropy as a whole. Hopefully this means they'll now have more time when releasing an expansion and will have more than one type of were beast, Werebears, Werewolves, and maybe even wereboars (Though they're not indigenous to Skyrim).

Civil and werewolf are two words that simply don't go together.

As long as they make them good. They need to be balanced and enjoyable to play as, unlike Oblivion's vampires.

I think that the decision to remove werewolves was a good one so long as they didn't simply remove them to charge us extra money for them later, I think it's a fair pay off to wait for well designed werewolves later rather than have half-assed ones now.

It will probably be better this way, if lycanthropy ends up being implemented in DLC. It allows them more time to worry exclusively about werewolves.

Ok... no werewolves... maybe there could still be werebears? :D

:sadvaultboy:

I'm just hoping for a huge DLC with werebears and werewolves allowing you to visit the Hunting Grounds again!

I would have liked to see werewolves in the game, but they just didn't make it in this time around.

That's okay.

Chances are, they didn't want to say anything simply because they TRIED to work them into the game.
But it just couldn't happen this time around.

DLC folks. Not to worry. They've heard our cries for werewolves, they're working on it.

Honestly, if they did work on werewolves before finally deciding to cut them due to time constraints, I think the chances of us seeing a bloodmoon-esque expansion are extremely high. No sense in letting the resources lay about, right? But this all hinges on them having tried to incorporate werewolves before deciding nay for the time being.

The Bloodmoon event is said to repeat every 200 years so it seems likely we could be in for another one. However I doubt Bethesda would want to retread old ground like that.

My opinion about werewolves is simple.

They are very cool, but they are not an integral pillar of the Elder Scrolls series. They are a side-note at best. The last time we saw them in any official capacity was as an expansion for Morrowind. Let's not become deluded into thinking that a TES game without them is a disaster. Vampires are far more prevalent in past games and it makes sense they would focus on them first, and leave Werewolves for an expansion/dlc. Personally however, I could care less about Vampires, just another enemy for me to skewer. If werewolves are not in the initial release I will not be surprised.

I remember once either Pete or Todd (maybe both) discussing getting a game out the door. Them saying that they never seem to run out of ideas that blossom and they want to add it to the games. There is always one more thing someone thinks of that is great and seems so perfect for the game but that in the end...they have deadlines and if they didn't find a stopping point they would never run out of ideas and never get the game out the door. So when they can't manage to get an idea done in time to include in the game rather than toss it out, they will try to use it for a DLC. They always have more they want to add. And we always have more we want them to add.

I'm not much of a lover of the werewolf theme but I do feel for those who were holding out hope for it. Maybe Bethesda was holding out hope for it too...but in the end, it doesn't sound like it made it. I don't know that site but I do believe it may be right as Bethesda did visit there recently.

I'll hope for a DLC with it included for those of you who enjoy that line of play.

Actually, hold on, has there been an official confirmation? I would trust a barely known dutch website that claims they have spoken to an ART DIRECTOR.

So far there hasn't been any confirmation otherwise. IF a dutch website said that there won't be any werewolves because an art director said there wouldn't be, wouldn't bethesda want to 'clear the air' and say something in protest?

Several devs have been on today, they would have mentioned otherwise by now.

Welcome to Blood Mountain, er I mean Howling Peaks. They say there's gold up in that mountain. Others say there are ancient artifacts that allow you to shout more often. How useless does that sound?
Only thing I know is that there are a bunch of shirtless people in shorts running around killing deer with their bare hands. Good thing I have my Centurian Scorpions to protect me.
