Playing an Earth-based map, as Rome, spawned in Central Russia. Spread out to a degree, got attacked by my friendly Ottoman neighbors, conquered them. Hearing horror stories about Siam, I attacked them, took their two eastern cities, they sued for peace. At that point, Russia was getting a little feisty, so I began to remobilize my military to stop them from conquering half the city states in Asia, but Siam, seeing my western border was weakened, felt prime to attempt to retake their cities. My newly-upgraded-to-Rifleman military arrived (funds provided by a 15 turn Golden Age from Chichen Itza, then stacked on two turns in by ANOTEHR 15 turn Golden Age from completing the Taj Mahal) and pushed Siam out of France and Italy and to their last holdings in Africa. During this, Iroquois from Western Africa decided they wanted to tango, and I smacked them down three cities (ceded one of them back to make peace).
Rome's position as the greatest power in the world is unquestioned, even though the Persians are making a good push by conquering Greece and France.
So I have a mad expansionist Russia threatening from India, an unknown quantity in Persia to the East, and a vengeful Iroquois and shattered Siam to the south in Africa. I think this endgame is going to be fun. Hopefully they won't form a supercoalition and take me out en masse. That said, even if they do, my military is the second-largest in the world (and by far the most 'modern'), my conquest of the Ottomans, Siam, and one Iroquois city (the other was a city state I liberated) fueling my technological edge. In addition, over the sea, I have two friends (who hate each other) in America and Germany.
