Class Clarification

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 9:56 pm

I have a question. I encountered Brink for the first time the other day and I am still learning new things, but I was wondering something.

People are discussing what class they will choose when they create their character. However, from what I gather you are able to change your class from any command centre while in game. I believe this applies to single and multiplayer but correct me if I am wrong, but if I am not: what is the significance of selecting a character when you create him?

It will be impossible to learn every ability across all classes on one character - the posts you see are people picking what class they want their character to specialize in. If you want to play every class equally you will need to make and level more than one character.

Basically, from what I understand, each class has different unlockable skills which you unlock as you gain experience. If you have a single character, you could choose to make that character have all the basic skills from every class, or focus all your skill points into one class so that you can access the more advanced skills in that specific class. The point of having multiple characters, is so you can experiment with different class builds, I suppose.

I'm not 100% sure, but I have a feeling there are some things about appearance which you can't change after creation of a character. You can change clothes, etc, but somethings might remain permanent like hair color and tattoos. I have no idea for sure though.

Thanks for the help. Am I to gather then that you choose to create a character but you do not select a class, and when people describe their character they are merely describing their intention on what class to specialise in, and will be able to play all classes but one or two classes in a more advanced fashion?

Yes. You will be able to choose to play all classes at all times, but only able to switch classes at a command post (multiplayer/singleplayer) or at other pertinent points of the game (singleplayer). The abilities you choose on level up will further define your classes and playstyle, but will not limit beyond the amount of skills you are able to learn.

People that already have "choosen their classes" (like me), are simply looking forward one class to play first, to maximise it as the first one. Then we wil focus on other classes or make more all rounder chareacters (You can have 10 characters, which means I will have 4 Specialized characters on different classes, and 6 characters which will focus on more than one class)
