Class limits?

Post » Fri Apr 08, 2011 3:36 am

As a normal person on the Brink forums, I scan every bit of information from any previews, interviews and "Leaked" gameplay videos.. but while looking through that Pax 11 Round-up, I found an intresting article. http://www.tmrzoo.com/2011/22413

Spoiler
At first, I played a large lumbering character, armed with a railgun similar to The Heavy’s weapon in Team Fortress 2. As expected for the class, I was slow and hardy. My physical type allowed me to be one of three classes: the operative, the engineer and the soldier. Each class allowed me to have special abilities. For example, as the operative, I could take over the identity of a downed enemy, while as an engineer, I could buff my own gun damage and other players’.

Switching to a light character, I could also be a medic. Unless other medics, my character was still handy with a gun, while his special ability, aside from reviving downed mates and healing other players, allowed him to increase his max hit points.

It may have been like that because of only eight humans split in half on both teams... but if there is a class limit... alot of butthurt will ensue.

That doesn't make sense. How can, and why should, a Heavy be limited from being a Medic?

Widely regarded as a mistake on the journalist's part.

He's asking if there's class limits.

Like if there's 3 soldiers running around already, no one else can choose to be a soldier.

If so I am glad. Nothing ticks me off more than when we have 4 snipers and 3 spies running around on Team Fortress.

I saw typos and poor grammar all over that thing. Maybe he didn't see the choice for medic when he played heavy? Wouldn't put it past him........ :whistling:

all bodytypes can become all classes.
i know the game would give you xp if you switch class if there are too many of that class, so perhaps they make sure there can't be too many of one class to make sure it wouldn't get abused?

The way he presented it, and from what he quoted, I believed he was asking if there are class limits in different body types.
And the answer for that is no.

Medium medic + self buffed health would be at least close to a heavy without a buff. I don't know exactly. Either way, it was probably done for balance. Shooting down a heavy medic to see him buffing himself again could be quite an annoyance.

The limit was probably done for balance as well. So teams and friends don't have one person switch to an indicated class needed for a major objective and have the rest of the team go medic / soldier to heal everyone and give everyone ammo. Either way, every class is viable for combat and there should be next to no reason immense amounts of butthurt should occur. If it does, so be it.

But you have to remember that self-buffing takes more time than buffing others. Besides, good teamwork can handle that. As a Heavy is downed, two guys can make sure he stays downed with concentrated and highly accurate fire.

I know it might not have been his question, but are there class limits within each match?

I know there isn't a limit on which body-type can be a class etc.. its the fact that there maybe a team class limit.. because theres nothing I hate more then a whole team of snipers on BFBC2 and I am the only Medic/Engie/Assault on the team -.-

I think it may have been done as a server option, setting how many of what class can go on one team e.g. 3 soldiers, 2 medics, 1 Operative and 2 engies. That way the players could try out different classes other then just all operatives...

Ok. That makes sense. Because don't get me wrong I hate that too. But it would svck if you can't be the class you put most of your time and resources into.

Ugh.. I don't know how many times I have played on a server with no class limits on BFBC2, but I found a server with 4 snipers per team ;). It was completely different from the other games lol

I know exactly what you mean lol. I would just like it to be more of an option than a mandatory thing.

It's just really simple: He spawned as a heavy medic and only discovered the options to change to every other class.

Yeah, it certain sounds like it, lol.

I would be so ticked off if class was restricted to body types. I want to try every body type as a Medic to get used to the different gamestyles.

Heck it intend to play every class and every bodytype. Just to see what you can do with each.
