Class making help?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 7:36 am

So I have returned to Oblivion after what feels like years, and I've come here to ask for help on making the class as I have envisioned it. Here is the information I have so far.

Race: Nord
Birthsign: Not yet chosen
Specialization: Combat
Attributes: Willpower, endurance
Skills: armorer, blade, destruction, heavy armor, not yet chosen

What I'm aiming for is a warrior that is deadly with a sword, but can also use destruction spells. I put some pieces together, but since I mainly played straight up slashers I need a few pointers. I do know there are probably better races to use for this, but I want to play a Nord.
I thank you for your time.

A Breton would probably be a better choice, they have resist and Fortify Magicka. Dunmer have +10 Destruction, so you should consider them. But, if you really want to play as a Nord, the you should have Restoration as a major skill.
You should probably use the Crusader class as a template, just customize it to suit you better.

I'd say a Nord is a good choice. The only thing you'll need to do is work to boost your Intelligence a bit, probably by working on your alchemy skill (not as a major, though!) I would suggest choosing a birthsign that boosts Magicka; The Mage is a good choice if you're conservative, but Atronach is superb for that build, as long as you don't mind managing your magicka a bit.

Nords start with a slight boost to Restoration, but I would agree that it would be a good choice as your remaining skill.

I disagree with those who claim that there is a "best race" for anything in this game. The races are pretty well balanced, and the differences tend to even out as one levels up.

@TheUnadoringFan, Thanks I'll look into the crusader class. Now I just need to pick a birthsign.

@glargg, I was thinking maybe picking the Atronach, and relying heavily on potions. Running out of potions in a big fight would make for some great tension. So I should put Restoration as one of my majors then.

I was also thinking of putting hand to hand, just in case I somehow lose my sword and can't use spells.

I like what you’ve got so far. Have you considered going blunt instead of blade? A Nord with a giant warhammer (called Mjolnir, of course) slinging lightning spells just seems to fit somehow.

I agree with glargg that the Atronach sounds like a great choice for this character. And you should definitely consider taking Restoration as a major skill. If you want to avoid Alchemy as a major, you might want to consider Mysticism for the spells to augment the absorption given to you by being an Atronach.

Good luck.

I have thought about blunt, but for some reason I just couldn't see myself playing without a sword. So Restoration, and Mysticism as majors. Would I need Restoration if I was going to rely on potions?

You can raise any skill to 100, so 'need' might be the wrong choice of word. I would take Restoration as a major even if I were going to use potions simply because it levels slower than any other school of magic. Conversely, if you are intent on making your own potions, I would definitely leave Alchemy as a minor because it levels so quickly.

The higher your restoration skill the better restoration spells you can use as well as reducing cost. If you plan to use it a lot you might want to make it a major. Restoration levels very slowly and you're going to want those bigger spells.

If your gonna use Destruction with a Nord then the Mage Birth Sign is essential you'll need the extra 50 Magicka as Nords only have 30 INT to start with.

I would go with this type of build

Nord
Specialization Combat
Birthsign The Mage
+5 Endurance +5 Intelligence
Majors
Blade, Block, Heavy Armor, Destruction, Restoration, 2 fillers don't pick Armorer as a Major because then you'll have 3 majors factored into the Endurance stat meaning you won't get +5's in Endurance. Even though you'll start out with 55 Endurance you'll need the +4's or +5's if you want to get as much health as possible early on.

Thanks for the help everyone, because of it I was able to make Rikard Black-Blood. Now I gotta level him to atleast 25 before I start any quests. Here is his info.

Race: Nord
Birthsign: Atronach
Specialization: Combat
Attributes: Intelligence, Endurance
Skills: Armourer, Blade, Destruction, Heavy Armor, Mysticism, Alteration, and Mercantile.

Gotta say playing him so far has been a blast! Also a special thanks to ZakariusSvedlin for the guide. It reminded me of the most important part of making a character. Making a character that you like and that's fun to play, even if it isn't the best choice.

Your welcome man. And yeah, at the end its just about what YOU want. Your the one playing. Most people think my current character is completely screwed up, but he's never been anywhere near death.
