No class system?

Post » Sat Oct 30, 2010 6:37 pm

do you guys think there will be a way to exploit the leveling system so you can eventually max out every skill by constantly raising your level and getting perks?

You stop getting perks after level 50, it also becomes harder and harder to level up.

I wouldn't be surprised if in the release version you'll be able to max out most if not all of the skills, but I doubt you'll be able to get all the perks and max out all the attributes.

Who knows though :)

I imagine if there is it will get patched quickly since this new system is meant bypass the exploits from OB

WHHHAAAATTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!! :( GTFO noway i enjoyed the exploit system on oblivion, duping the necromancers amulet, obtaining the necromancers moon, creating a permaclone mythic dawn agent in my home, and countless other tricks. dammit

read #35 and you'll see where i want the direction the class system: more impact on the world

Nobody has really addressed what their ideal levelling systems would be, just how it was handled in the past and why Bethesda is changing it. Before the GI article came out, I was hoping that they would go with what you want: classes that are genuinely integrated into how the game functions. But Bethesda has chosen to do the opposite in that regard, and you can see their reasons. Really, it seems all you're looking for is an additional way to define who and what your character is. I think Bethesda will manage to do this, but in a different way with the system of perks. I honestly think that given how little information we really have, it's a bit early to prejudge the new system.

make it have an impact on the way you play, certain response from the world. the mages guild should be a little sceptic towards warrior who wanted to join: all in all small details who will make the class matter.

Read what PrimePhreak just said a few posts up from my last post. The game DOES acknowledge your class... based on what you DO in the game, not what you name yourself. That is exactly what you are asking for, and IMO much better.

i really hope they give you the option to label the soul of whoever you captured it from like in morrowind, imagine stealing a dragons soul, id be boltin down to the nearest enchant alter to cash that in for some godly equipment :P

I agree, I would like that as well. Soul Gems in that way become trophies IMO.

I don't understand... why would you want a way to exploit the leveling system when you can just use the console commands or the editor to give your character whatever they might need? Cheating in TES games since Morrowind has been the easiest thing in the world and you don't even need broken mechanics to do it.

I'm not sure if you are saying this is a good or a bad thing. In my mind, this is an awesome idea. The game is acknowledging how we choose to play, not the arbitrary name we choose for yourselves. I feel 1000 times more like a mage if another mage attempts to duel me just because of my use of magic than if its because I happened to choose at the beginning of the game to be a "Mage." This gives us the chance to explore our roles so much more.

I agree but i can see where the label is very much wanted. Its more for social interaction I can say i have a Hobo Mage, who goes around pickpocketing people then summoning a zombie in town so I can run away scott free. But i dont have anything that SAYS im a Hobo mage. I have no proof of it. and i am that petty i want to show off my dirty old mage to all the people so they can say EWWW!!!

look i don't completely disagree with the no class system, but having a class have been a part of TES since the start. and i think bethesda have taken the easy route with the exploits with the OB system, rather than fixing the problem

yeah well i was planning on purchasing it for the 360, cause i have a LCD flatscreen and HDMI cable and my computer isnt the best but my system on that TV would look better than my PC but if i am unhappy with the limitations for the box than i'll buy it for PC so i can play mods.

Alright, yea I can see that... but then like I said, we don't know that you can't name your class. Plus... I think it would be funnier to show them your Hobo Mage in action. :)

Well, I'll just say its real easy to think that they are taking the easy route out of something when the changes are something we disagree with, but you have to remember there is nothing easy about making games like this.

Anyways, having a "name" for your class or choosing pre-made classes is not what created the exploit. They could still give us the ability to name or choose from pre-made classes but keep the new leveling system if they wanted. So that really has nothing to do with it. I think they just decided it would be more interesting for you to play your character based on roleplaying rather than on what class you choose.

Well unless there is CO-OP or some form of arena MULTIPLAYER no one will see my mage in action except for me. (get flame suit ready for mentioning multiplayer EEK)

But all in all i dont think they would take titles out completely I mean you are the last dragon-born you are the hero of the Whole elder scrolls saga. We get to kill a god people. I think just slap "God Slayer" on there we will all be happy

gotta agree with that: the label and pre-made class is one of the thngs this is about. i never completely disagreed with the new lvl system, only the lack of classes

Oh... I thought you meant showing someone in person or posting screenshots/videos. How else would you show them that you are a Hobo Mage?

My ATI card has an HDMI out... so I could use my TV if I want... but I probably won''t since my TV is 1st generation LCD svcks compared to the new stuff that costs 1/10th of what I paid for the PoS. :P

I guess it depends on how you play. I come into the game with predetermined roles/builds, I don't play like I want to, I play like my characters would want. He makes the choices, not me. With control, you never become a jack-of-all trades. You are your class, because you were always that class, whether the games would acknowledge it or not. If I want to play a different way, I make or play with another build. Eventually after a dozen builds you have any style you would want. A unique class name is just another customization I can have. I also noticed in that screen from the article that your birth-sign wasn't shown. Honestly I wanted a Daggerfall depth of class customization, you know the quiz and all.

Well, I didn't really mean you would be a jack-of-all. You still play like YOU want to, you are just playing a role. Example for my point is what if your opinion of what makes a Thief is different from mine? Maybe I think... my Thief should have skills in Illusion, but you believe your Thief should be purely non-magic. We both steal things, we'll both get noticed by the Thieves guild, and now if what they said is correct, I might get noticed by some others for my use of Illusion as well. Its more intuitive and creative this way. People wont pick a pre-made class just because that is what the devs say is a Thief, they'll pick the skills they believe a Thief should have.

We can customize your classes now to an awesome degree why not let us label ourselves
