Class Wars

Post » Tue Sep 27, 2011 2:10 pm

I was wondering everyone else's take on this.

I can see a lot of emphasis has gone in to revamping all the classes and I can safely say I'm very impressed with the new perks.

That being said, it has also now encouraged me to play as a Fighter/Warrior type character. I can safely say in MW/OB and any other games in the 'RPG' genre (NWN etc), I've never played as a fighter type character. I always thought them to be boring, repetitive and without challenge. However, after seeing this for the shield perks alone, I'm definitely going to be playing as a Nordic warrior on one of my play throughs...

Shield Wall (1 of 5)
Blocking is 25% more effective. Requires: Block 20.
Deadly Bash
Bashing does more damage. Requires: Block 20.
Power Bash
Able to do a power bash. Requires: Block 30.
Bash Disarm
Shield Charge
Able to move faster with a shield raised. Requires: Block 100.
Quick Reflexes
Time slows down if you are blocking during a power attack. Requires: Block 30.
Deflect Arrows
Riposte
Elemental Protection

So my question to you lot is whether Bethesda has now inspired you to play as a class you would have never considered before. Again, for arguments sake I'm referring to pure or pure'ish breeds.

Obviously, I've chosen fighter, and it seems that there's a much more tactful approach... blocking at the right time, using shield charges etc. Seems more fun now :D

I may be inclined to try a new class/archetype, whic would be either a rogue-type, mystic archer-type, pure thief or pure mage class. I have always prefered combat-magic hybrid with focus on combat, but I have played a pure warrior.

I've played every class so no, and I'm going Mage. Because they have that awesome combination of smart, and powerful. Plus the robes are boss.

I've never played a stealth class before.

Well, other than casting a 100% chameleon and just walking around undetected.

The advanced sneak, pickpocketing, enemy A.I., and bow and arrow have inspired me to make a pure stealth class. I'm thinking of using a Bosmer (even though they're all ugly little creatures(

Mages are overpowered. Backpedal and shoot spells at a defenseless enemy. So difficult. With a warrior you have to bring the fight to the enemy and put yourself in danger. At least assassins have to get close to their enemy, but they are never in any danger if they have any brains at all.

Skyrim seems to balance the "fun" factor in all of the possible ways to play. So I am considering a variety of styles that I have disliked prior to Skyrim. I chose all "Warrior, Mage, Stealth", I plan to try every combination possible in the game. Slight differences won't be separate playthroughs, like using an axe/magic instead of sword/magic.

Stealth. For the first time I planned a background story for my first character, I'm drawing sketches too right now! Will make a thread when I finish it all :) It'll keep me busy enough till Skyrim comes out =D

I never found being a pure mage fun in either Morrowind or Oblivion but I have a feeling that in Skyrim I will actually keep whatever pure mage characters I end up making thanks to the new magic system.

I'll definitely be trying out pure mage this time. Still not enthused about pure warrior though.

As opposed to randomly swinging as much as possible until the enemies dead?...

I'm going to make it hard for myself for myself. I'm gonna go hermit. abandon all clothes, armour and weapons at the immediate start of the game. Just go with whatever nature commands, and what becomes my character will be it.. I can't wait to see what he ends up like...

some kind of sorcerer, barbarian cross.

Never played any "pure" class in a TES game, and I doubt I ever will.... why would you do that, when you've got a system that lets you mix & match skills by using them, instead of being stuck with cookie-cutter "Mage" "Fighter" "Thief" like every other RPG? :)

Now, I've never really used a great deal of magic (especially offensive magic) before, but the new magic system looks like it might be interesting enough to give it a go this time. So that's one new playstyle I'm tempted to try.

- Block.
- One-Handed.
- Speechcraft.
- Smithing.
- Enchanting.

I have played most every class at least 20 hours each. And I had Characters in all three main classes in Oblivion. I only ever played a warrior or a mage in Morrowind because stealth was iffy in gameplay.

I inspired myself to play as a different class in oblivion just because I am ALWAYS melee. Now I am a battle mage :D.

Yes, I will be playing a pure mage this time around... Spells look much more fun now. They were ugly and incredibly non-powerful looking before.

I've never really played stealth, so this time I will. Bow or Dagger as main weapon. It wont be pure stealth, but Shadowmage type. Added illusion, alteration, alchemy, possibly conjuration.
