Classes In A Literal Sense

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 5:42 am

I know that there is no more classes in
skyrim in a gameplay sense but are they
still there in a literal sense. Like I joined the
fighter's Guild I am considered a fighter.Is
there going to be something like that or are
there absolutely no classes in any sense what
so ever?

Err... Maybe pressing enter not that much will make thing more clear to you?

Otherwise, classes are out, factions (and most probably including guilds) are not.

Why are all your lines for your post only like 10 words long? Is this one of those Haikus I heard so much about? :P

You will be a member of that guild, but it won't stop you or limit you magical abilities.

classes only really affect gameplay in a role playing sense, the name of your class other wise has no affect on the method of your statistics or your character build. so they are not so stinging a loss as attributes. but I will miss having what pretty much amounted to having a character sheet in game, you can still do it out of game, but thats... weird I guess.

Well things like you mentioned aren't classes, they are ranks within a faction. So fighter in the fighters guild would be a rank, not a class.

Well as long as you don't write like that on paper. You'll make those trees die in even more vain.

No offense, but it isn't exactly neat. It looks like a half-wall of text, or some kind of text pillar. Proper paragraphs work much better imo. That being said, I hope you have to pass certain tests or have certain skill levels to rank up in guilds. Not because of the lack of classes but because I hated that I was Arch Mage in Oblivion with all my magic skill levels adding up to about 38.

I wouldn't exactly call being aware of how your paragraph structure breaks down to being a mistake, if thats how you like to write, its a style.

That's never been an aspect of Elder Scrolls actually. Have you ever played an Elder Scrolls game? You are considered somethng by what you DO, not by what you join.

Besides, you are always a fighter. Fighting with a sword or a spell doesnt make you more or less of a fighter.

Ash one?

Well I believe classes out only for player, we can literally name specialization of NPC in all ways what we want, so they still will match archetypes from Lore.

Sure, if guilds work like Oblivion with no requirements. Attribute-based or otherwise.

And if you want to split your perks up between multiple archetypes.

And if you want to forgo a shield, second sword, or second spell.

It's good that you were almost on topic, but don't try to turn it into just another attribute debate. Least of all if your arguments are so baseless!

I'm leaving before I do the same.

Interesting fact: In Daggerfall (I'm about to try playing it again) you picked skills at character creation to be your Primary, Major, and Minor skills. In Morrowind this was streamlined to Major and Minor. In Oblivion this was streamlined to Major. In Skyrim we don't choose at all. What's everyone's thoughts on where (or if) things went too far, and is a completely classless system better or worse than 1, 2, or 3 categories of skill choice?

I dig it

@above: It's baseless because he implies the loss of attributes will allow him to join the Fighters Guild with a magic user or hybrid. When this was possible in Oblivion with any character with any attributes, and in Morrowind the guild ranks also relied on skill level.

Although there are no classes as such, the requirements and limited number of perks will probably encourage players to think more carefully about their character's build and plan how to achieve it.

So, ironically, I suspect that Skyrim will end up feeling more class-based than previous outings.

I don't role play as my self. labeling is bad if some one else is labling you as something, but its also bad if you don't allow some one else to express them selves via labeling them selfs. I don't think loss of classes is a huge deal, it was nice for role playing is all.
