Classic Music Or Modern Music?

I would LOVE that.

One of the mods on PC added a Civil Defense Station that would play old 1950s government safety messages for nuclear war. It was great.

I would love to have 3-4 episodic serial dramas that aired at different times on different radio stations. "Tune in next week, for the next exciting adventure of Captain Cosmos and Jangles the Moon Monkey! Brought to you by our sponsors at Nuka-Cola. The fizzy cola drink that's a blast of flavor!"

Yeah the radio dramas and stories would be great. Something along the lines of L.A. Noire, where they actually had real stories and talk shows from the 40's playing on the radio.

Interestingly enough, NV had a few newer songs that were dressed up to appear like 50's and early 60's country.
There's only one way any sort of "modern" music works and that's if it is retro. Personally I like a little psychobilly when I'm RPing one of my raider characters.

Three Dog will hire the Brotherhood of Steel to make dubsteb. Or else.

The radio tracks are only good once or twice so I prefer the background music. They should just drop in the old background music from the originals like FONV had and add a few new ones for some variety.

Prey [from 3DRealms] included a running radio show from Art Bell, that the player could catch little bits of every time they passed a working radio. It was a nice touch.

Max Payne did similar; and in some cases did lunacy with its on-air tv broadcasts. A FO title could run old shows, or even old looped Emergency Broadcasts. They should really study Douglas Adams' abandoned airport scene in his Hitchhiker's Guide series.

Oh yeah I forgot about Max Payne's TV shows. Animated ones like captain baseball bat boy and stuff like that. That would be pretty cool in F4. It would be the first time an actual T.V worked in game (I think?).

I think it will be 60s-70s songs because i heard a song in the e3 showcase and it sounded middle 70s.

I find it unfortunate that we are still [erroneously] getting tunes from our 1950s, instead of http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj125/Gizmojunk/Alternate-Earth_zps53e52bc9.jpg or 2035's

*Still, they picked a good song.

It would be quite a lot of effort to go to to make a load of fitting, 50s style but unique and "retro-futuresque" songs. I did hear somewhere that the reason is supposed to be that like in our world they moved on from vinyl records (presumably into something that doesn't use micro-processors though, given they don't exist in FO) and the bombs (EM) destroyed all of that so only the 1950s vinyl remains.

Of course, that theory is flawed by the fact holotapes still work and you'd think music would be recorded on something similar.

All they would have to do is ask their musician.

Why wouldn't Microprocessors exist? (Unpopular sure, but they'd have to exist as an option. The Fallout setting isn't the 1950's, and they do have technology well beyond the 1960's. If they wanted cellphones they could have them; but they wouldn't look like an Iphone.) It's supposed to be the future ~as they may have expected it ~not as they were ~then capable of producing it.

From what I can tell pretty much everywhere describing fallout notes one of the core differences between the world of the game and real life was the microprocessor was never developed and alternatives were found. I'm not sure if this 100% stated in the canon though.

Todd Howard has joked about a divide in 1947... but who knows if he's serious about it.. Even if he was, I don't think that's the setting until they got a hold of it... It's terribly skewed by them now; but there is certainly valid [legal] argument that whatever they pull out of hat can be taken for canon now. :sadvaultboy:

There's a lot of music from the 1930s-1950s that has remained unexploited fallout 3 had a great soundtrack but it needed more in regards to quantity as it made the music repative after a while unless you have some custom radio station mods that added 1950s era music (buddy holly, etc) or a player radio station (jack full of Johnny Cash). I doubt they'll have a drastic increase in music compared to the previoius two games however it would be a welcome addition. Hopefully with an increased budget there'll be a great variety in terms of generes of music. Nevertheless I know Bethesda will provide in terms of great 1930s-1950s music fitting the tone of the atmosphere of the game.

Buddy holly and Richie Valens were to great artist who died together in a plane crash, i would want to see more of elvis music because his style of rock n roll is a great fit for this game.

Why is this even a question?

If ANYTHING I'd like to see futuristic verions of classic 50s songs, maybe with time-appropriate lyrics and instruments, or maybe some crazy music invented by drugged up raiders. But actual modern music has no place in Fallout.

I'm not saying that as one of those people who just hates modern music. I love all music. It just has to fit the setting.

I would like a way to play my own collection of MP3s. Or just A collection of MP3s... Have a folder for them that the Pip Boy can access...

I wouldn't mind shooting enemies to the sounds of Slipknot or, better yet, Fear Factory.

We know eventually the microprocessor exists, probably invented by Robco: The Platinum Chip. But it was still new when the bombs fell.

American society in the Fallout universe never moved on from the 50s/60s era culture, much like their art, clothing. etc music remained locked in the style as well. Including "modern" music would big a gigantic "[censored] you" to the whole cannon. Besides, they'll definitely hire a composer to do music that plays in the background like in Fallout 3, that music will certainly be more modern and dissimilar to 50s/60s style music.

That being said, I'd be interested to see Bethesda include music composed by wastelanders. I mean, guitars, pianos, violins, some instruments must've survived and it'd be a little ridiculous that humans stop making music just cause of the apocalypse.

The only way I'd be ok with it is if it was music made specifically for the game and meant to sound like it was from the 1930's-1960's.
