Cleaning OOO...

Post » Sat May 21, 2011 4:04 pm

You know, I think that OOO should be okay to clean. It shouldn't make any changes that are identical to Oblivion.esm. Now I can understand FCOM - it has to make changes to other mods that make changes. But OOO should be nothing but changes. I'm gonna clean it. See if it rids me of my 15 - 30 min CTD's.

Good luck!

Just for the record, I don't get CtDs, with OOO, or FCOM. Or even "FCOM++" (which is how I've ended up, basically).

I agree with BretonPaladin. The root cause is elsewhere, not OOO.

I don't believe it's recommended to clean OOO - which has intentional dirty edits.

If you're getting crashes every 15-30 minutes it suggests your system is running out of resources. Use the console to monitor your memory usage and run Oblivion in window mode so you can also monitor system memory usage via Windows.

You should also run Streamline and Oblivion Stutter Remover if you're not already doing so, as these help with performance. If you have a multicore CPU try altering your OSR ini file as follows:

Set bReplaceHeap = 1 (Note: if using Mannimarco Revisited you'll need to set this to 0 just for when you loot Mannimarco's corpse)
Set iHeapAlgorithm = 5.
Set iHeapSize = 1024.

Cleaning OOO won't solve those crashes. Your issue lies squarely with resource depletion. You should have a look at http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?showtopic=1118450 for ideas on how to proceed. The advice given by all those who contributed, myself included, is gold.

I never cleaned OOO but can say from experience that NOT running OOO has reduced CTDs for me. I agree resource depletion is a big cause of CTDs, but I can go 6 hours without CTD (90% outside) with Frans and MMMforFrans. With OOO and MMMforOOO I can maybe get 2 hours before CTD.

I use Streamline and OSR with same settings for both.

However, as others do not experience this problem, it cannot be said for sure that OOO cintributes to CTDs even if you do not reach the resource limit.

I would be curious to see what Malonn finds after cleaning OOO.

Well, the esm only had 5 dirty edits and the esp had 24, so it probably won't help that much. I haven't had a chance to play extensively since cleaning it yet.

Well you never know. Even a grain of sand in your sock can have an impact on how you walk (hey, it makes sense to me :) ), so do share if you test this. Can't hurt and if anything, can show that OOO does not contribute to CTDs any more than everything else (other than resources, of course :) )
