Clearing up some dog-gone cofusion

*CONFUSION

I've been getting mixed messages across the web, and I'd like to sort it out.

I've seen a lot of people asserting that the Dog companion can be named. So confident are they in this fact that there'll be whole discussion threads of "What will you name your dog?" going on for pages. But there are no sources supporting this claim.

I've also seen a number of people pointedly claiming that the dog's name is Dogmeat. Period. Some have said that it was revealed (by who is never mentioned) that you meet someone in the game who tells you that the dog is named Dogmeat. Again, no sources are produced to support it.

All I want to know is: Do we actually know either way, and if so, who confirmed it and where?

Thanks folks!

In the video the PC never calls the dog by a specific name. He says generic things like "Lets go boy". This is a point in favor of being able to name the dog. Other thab this I havent heard a definitive yes or no to the question.

Traditionally the dog is named Dogmeat, but, that's just tradition.

As to whether the dog is named or can be named ... if you can, then, there you go. If you can't, then, there will be a mod that comes along and lets you.

With every question, ask; will there be a mod that let's me do this if I can't already do so vanilla?

I would also like to clear up some confusion if that's ok OP?

In another thread, it was listed as a fact that bullet types had been removed in favour of three different muzzled. One applies electricity damage, one applies fire damage and one applies frost damage. Could someone who followed Gamescom a bit more closely than I offer some insight into this? If this is fact, could I pleas behave a source? I would really not like this feature, it seems ridiculous and more in the realm of Borderlands or TES than Fallout.

In the E3 video the dog is named "Dog".. In the microsoft video the dog is named "Dogmeat" That's why people have come to believe you can name the dog.

you can see a few types of mods in the weapon crafting segment that add effects like fire and electrical damage, and i think there was a cryo mod but they didnt pause over it so the effects werent listed, but that will probably be ice damage of some type

dont know about ammo types appearing

if you dont like it, dont use it, a bit silly not to, but there you go

its a step up from the utter void of weapon effects from fo3

i liked the ammo types in nv, but you just gotta deal with some things

To be fair I am one of those saying Dogmeat is the one true name. Just after E3 I ran across a article which purported to be an interview with one of the developers where it was stated that later on in the game you would find a NPC who would confirm that Dogmeat is in fact Dogmeat and that then the name would change from Dog to Dogmeat. To be fair I went looking and cannot find the article at this time. But there is the source of the contention. Whether it is true and accurate ( since I have no proof at this time) is for you to decide.

As a traditional console player, I prefer not to have to rely on mods to fix things. That said, this isn't so much a "fix" as simply something I'd like clarified. But that's certainly a fair question to question the questions.

You mean like AP rounds, Hollow Points, etc? I haven't seen anything suggesting they're included, or anything suggesting that fire/electric/etc. damage can be added to anything other than energy weapons. Hopefully they return.

Don't think of it as "relying" on mods to "fix" things. Think of it as adding features and functionality you would prefer over what comes basic.

It's like anything else. You buy a house in the real world, and you customize it with the appliances, furniture and other accessories you want and need.

The house isn't broken or in need of "fixing", but, you accommodate it according your tastes all the same.

Many people do the same with their cars in adding rims, stereos, custom paint, suspension, exhaust, and other features. The car wasn't broken to begin with, but, it gets customized regardless.

It's not reliance, or fixing. It's customization according individual preference.

I wasn't happy to hear about this either :sadvaultboy: I wanted an expanded version of what we got in NV.

Neither was I. I wanted an expanded version of what we saw in New Vegas, rather than an expanded version of what we got in...wait for it...TES. :sadvaultboy:

Fire, frost, and shock damage from guns in TES...errr...I mean Fallout? No thanks. JHP, FMJ, AP, and incendiary rounds make sense for Fallout, but fire, frost and shock do not. Leave that [censored] for TES.

I really hope that's wrong, and we won't be seeing yet another TES with guns. One was quite enough, we don't need another.

Personally, I quite like it. I don't really see the allusion to TES outside of them sharing the same name - they're still very much elements of any functioning world. Plus, I doubt every gun is going to have fire/frost/shock modifications.

I never said you definetly can name it, just that thats a clue towards the possibility you may be able to. Just like you dont know what you said is true. How do we know we ever find the dogs name out? We dont. Also if his name is dogmeat, and its voiced, Im pretty sure they would have had him say it. Seeing as Todd made a big deal about it at the reveal. But we dont know for sure either way.

Let me clear something up. I have no idea if you can name him, but his original name is Dogmeat.

Todd said that when you meet him, he will be dog, but later you will find someone who tells you his actual name (his companion quest no doubt).

I admit I can't source it, because its has been awhile since I have seen the article, so its up to you to take my word for it or ignore me. Or go find it yourself.

the dog was only shown being talked to early on when you first meet him.. the main character wouldnt know the dogs name then so saying "here boy" ect would fit.. but id imagine that after finding out its name the main character might then call him dogmeat.

"Another TES with guns"? At any rate, nothing concerning this energy damage has been confirmed except that it exists. Ammo types aren't really a feature that would get advertised anyway(and I certainly hope they're in the game).

I've looked, multiple times. There's no reason that this one interview would just disappear. So no, I'm afraid that I won't take your word for it.

I hope the doggy is very realistic. Bethesda is always talking about attention to detail. If the doggy doesn't pee on random objects, I'm going to be sad lol

When was it ever confirmed that there were different elemental muzzles? The only evidence I saw of this is the Cryolator (A weapon cut from Fallout 3) being in the game, and that's a weapon, not a muzzle type.

...or maybe they named him dogmeat. I'm just wondering how we would find out his name, later. It has my mind thinking the dog is all, "Actually my name is dogmeat, nice to meet you."

The E3 footage showed barrel attachments with "elemental" effects.
