Climate Effects

Post » Mon May 02, 2011 7:43 pm

Skyrim, as we all know, is a Winter Wonderland freezing deathtrap, most of it anyway. The discussion is will the climate have any effect on your character? Should it? For instance, will being in the cold too long cause you to slow down, and eventually lose health? Where I can see this would really be a [censored] if your intent is exploring and make some people mad, I think it could also add to the game. Maybe if there were a hardcoe mode or something. Possibly certain thick fur clothing sets would offer better protection from the elements. Discuss.

I don't think the climate should effect the character. I don't care how much people want this game to be realistic, Skyrim is literally a freezing wonderland, like you said, We would be loosing health constantly and that would be very difficult to explore if your loosing health especially if you're at a low level.

Nothing is confirmed, but I hope weather effecting health isn't too extreme.

I'm not talking your health just drastically dropping to zero in a matter of seconds, just very very gradually, and it only really effects you if you have been out for a long time or don't have proper clothing.

I still don't like it.

We don't know that cold will affect your character but we already know that weather will affect your character. In what ways weren't specific.

I still don't like it.

I think it is a fitting downside to deciding to travel in a blizzard when one kicks up. That's just my opinion though. I'm all for games killing the player often as it forces you to refine yourself and if you get through a situation that is supposed to kill you a few times before you get it down, then you feel even more accomplishment to know you did it the first time through.

I don't like the idea of the weather sapping your health no matter how gradual. I wouldn't mind it encumbering your however. (that is, slowing you down)

A sunny day sapped your vampires health  Not quite the same but it is a weather effect that sapped your health so it has precedence. I don't think he means whenever your in a cold area it saps your health, I think he means particularly harsh weather like blizzards. Even in Oblivion we had a cold area that sapped health while you were in the grove. We know that weather will affect your character in some way so maybe a blizzard will sap your health or it might just slow you down and drop your view distance to close view. I'd love a whiteout

There should be some sort of negative effect(s) for being in extreme cold without any protective wear, but only for hardcoe mode.

I would rather not have a health sap. That's just an annoyance. If anything, I'd rather have penalties associated with cold weather. Slower movement, susceptibility to disease, exhaustion, and then eventually feeling the affects of hypothermia. Of course, it should all be reasonably manageable (or at hardcoe/survival mode only).

hardcoe mode by all means but otherwise no. The annoyance would be greater than the reward of added realism.

Climate changes that affect you which can be avoided through proper clothing/preparation (Which isn't hard to do) is a winner in my book.

I want challenges which I can solve left and right.
