Just downloaded CoT including it's sound, winter version addon and expansion patches, used LOOT, but the load order is still messed up. What's the correct load order for CoT? Also does anyone know if the Winter edition adds snow INSIDE cities such as Whiterun or does it just add snow outside of the cities and ''open cities'' such as Riverwood?

In other words - If you dont know the correct load order, how can you say its messed up.

I get that LOOT is a bit different than BOSS used to be, and now it may seem a little anarchic when you compair how LOOT orders things with for instance information of an ideal load order as described by the author. But really it can be trusted to give you a good load order ..

.. Unless you have examined all the records inside conflicting esp's with TES5Edit and can prove without a doubt that LOOT has got it wrong ?

( If you didn't know, LOOT now has the ability to look inside esp and esm to determine conflicting records between plugins, and it puts the plugin with the least conflicting records compaired with all other plugins, last. Which in a lot of cases is better than the authors recommendations )

Great, I can't even start a new game. When I start the a new game I get the Alduin loading screen, but the the game returns to the desktop after that. What's the easiest way to export my load order to a .txt file? I'm not really in the mood to write them down 1 by 1.

Well, without suggesting Mod Managers which you may or may not have ..

Go in to :

C:\Users\\appdata\local\skyrim\

In that folder you will find the text files where your load order is stored by LOOT or Wrye Bash or NMM or MO or the Game itself.

The game CTD'ing at startup though sounds like you have a missing master plugin that some other mod depends on being in your load order, have you un-installed or just deactivated any mods since you last started the game ?

Not that I can think of, I deleted all my plugins, textures and meshes and reinstalled them. I installed BOSS and it found an error in Ysolda.esp, deactivated that one, but the game still crashes to the desktop.

The only thing I have got is follow the instructions LOOT has given you, unclean plugins ( bethesdas Update.esm, and DLC esms' ) can cause CTDs in combination with mods trying to alter the same records, so cleaning with TES5Edit looks like it is needed at the moment

Most of your mods I have never used, so probably needs someone elses input here if the cleaning does not solve the problem ( Cleaning is still worth doing though to eradicate the unclean plugins further complicating matters in the future, TES5Edit cleaning is essential for anyone modding this game ).

Just disabled all plugins including the official addons any my game still crashes, maybe I've accidently deleted a file or something?

Possible. Do you manually manage installing and uninstalling ?, in which case that is more likely to make such a mistake. Or do you use a mod manager ( which should not lose track of files unless you manually intervene with the install state of your files )

( Also note, disabling mods is not as good as totally un-installing mods when it comes to troubleshooting .. You can still have loose assets installed such as meshes or scripts, which the game will load if they are replacers for originals, no matter whether the plugin is active or not - And things like corrupted meshes or scripts could be the source of crashes, so disabling mods in that case will not stop the problem happening. Not forgetting also that if you try to continue a save which has embedded problems, your CTDs could be because of your save game dependancy on a mod you have taken out )

Does a new game start okay ?

I install mods manually, having been doing this since the Morrowind days. I just uninstalled Skyrim and will reinstall it with just the unofficial patches and CoT too see if it will work.

Also get steam to verify your game cache, the integrity of the original game files

Edit : You only do this if you think there may be a possibility of an error in one of your games original files ( a read / write error or hard drive sector failure causing a file to be corrupt ), its worth checking if you are having inexplicable CTDs

Edit 2 : Note also - If you have previously Cleaned your bethesda plugins, this process will overwrite the cleaned plugins with original files ( The verify cache process sees a different CRC on the file and installs the original )

Currently reinstalling Skyrim, can't wait too see if it really is CoT that's causing all this trouble.

EDIT. Vanilla game without mods and just the official plugins runs flawless, so it had too be one of those mods.

And / or lack of cleaning with TES5Edit is still a possibility too

Anyway best advice now is the tried and tested old method a seasoned manual installer like yourself will know .. Install one at a time and test. Rinse and repeat for another mod afterwards.

Just tried a game with just the unofficial patches and all off the CoT plugins and it worked, so it seems that CoT clashed with one of my other plugins.. I think. I would not recommend the Winter edition though. The snow in wilds looks amazing, but there is none inside the big cities such as Whiterun, kinda breaks the immersion for me.

EDIT. Installing my mods, game stills seems to working so far.

Sorry for the double post, but I figured out which plugin was causing my problems! It was either Hadvar.esp or it's meshes, which 'cause my game to crash. My problems where gone after removing the .esp and the meshes. Reinstalled for nothing, now I gotta reinstall all my mods and texture replacers again, damnit.
