climbing

I would think it would be difficult to implement, but I want it. I don't want it as a separate skill, though. I want it to be integrated into a skill that encompasses jumping, swimming, running, and climbing.

I think that's too much for 1 skill personally. Join athletics and acrobatics (long jumpers will tend to be pretty good athletes) but make climbing seperate (but longjumpers aren't necessarily any good at rockclimbing/parkour).

YES!

And there should be more, I made a little thread on how skills could really be awesome if they offered more interactions with the environment:

It's unfortunate that it isn't in the game if the tweet is true (I haven't looked it up. I avoid twitter--it's a disease :P) But like a couple others in this thread mentioned, it would be a great throwback to Daggerfall. And as a hardy barbarian who lives in a rocky craggy place, one would figure climbing would be a great advantage for many reasons. I'm not talking Assassins Creed style, but at least some form of climbing. Can't climb sheer rock faces, there has to be a surface for it--craggy, hand holds, etc. Climb sides of buildings, climb interior walls to reach rafters and such to pick off wandering oblivious baddies.

I say yes, it would be nice.

Yes! Definitely, although not as a skill - just as an ability. And maybe use something like crossbows with a grapple and rope, or something like the Vine Arrow from Thieves Arsenal (best implementation of climbing I've seen in TES)

I'm all for climbing, though if they decide to re-add flight to the game via the magic system, I wouldn't see the point to it.

why make it a frigging skill??? just make it a normal thing like walking and running.

but if they don't add it at least they can give us ropes

no climbing? very disappointing, they're not gonna get my money then. acrobatics is damn useless without climbing.

I'd like to climb steep rocks differently (instead of just walking up them), but I want climbing to be governed by athletics/acrobatics. A skill attributed to just climbing is silly.

With the proper equipment and high agility/acrobatics we should be to climb at least down for steep mountains, fastening a rope on a tree up there and slowly climbing down, hoping our knot holds...

I'm all for climbing. If it's not a separate skill, it may depend on acrobatics or athletic... maybe with a perk or two making it more efficient. Though, if it's introduced, I hope the game will also manage encumbrance more realistically. It would be strange to see a guy in plate armor with 2-3 two handed weapons in his back and 12 potions climbing cliffs too easilly. It would make the choice of light armor and small weapons like dagger a viable choice rather than a suicidal cosmetic option.

You can't imagine a single reason someone would want it?

-Non glitchy and silly mountain climbing
-Reaching difficult to reach areas
-Escaping from guards
-Finding vantage points for marksmen
-hiding from enemies
-more immersion
-Not being blocked by stupid barriers

This.

I would like a climbing ability that allows you to climb on some buildings like to lift over a roof or to escalate a wall may be with the proper tools....

Would be awesome. Kinda like Daggerfall. doesn't need to be a skill though, just an ability, or maybe just leech it from Acrobatics.

I just want a huge horn and the ability to yell "Ricola" once i get to the top.

Maybe, but not in a ridiculously over the top fashion, (i.e. Prince of Persia)

Climbing would be neat, but only if you CAN'T climb with a full steel armor, a long sword and similar stuff.
Because even in an fantasy RPG where you carry lots and lots of items, I think a little bit of realistic physics are necessary to make the world believable.
Someone in a plate armor climbing up a mountain would look absurd, don't you think? :)

But for an agile ranger in leather armor that would be a nice addition!

Its likely been said, but if Climbing, if is in the game, most likely it will be apart of the Athletics/Arcobatics skill set.

If you ask me, they never should have gotten rid of it from Daggerfall! What's the point of be a character with great acrobatics skills, and never actually being able to use them? This could add a whole new twist to playing as a stealth/assassin character. I want to be able to crawl on the walls like a spider!
