cloth physics= very important

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 8:08 am

Well so far you have seen what we all have,a dozen of still images. As I said, let's wait for the gameplay video. Being that the games graphics look more real than ever I wouldn't exculde the physics being improved either, especially since so many people disliked it in Oblivion.

And especially when physics engine solutions are so much common now, and more advanced every day.

Nice to have, but not necessary. I'm not a fan of hair physics either. I don't like my hair blowing around in my face in real life, I don't want to look like a r-tard every time I move, realistic or not.

very cool. even if skyrim's cloth physics are half as good as that it'd be a great addition to it.

I imagine a mage facing a dragon on a mountain top his robes whipping in the almost gale force winds as he screams a dragon shout at the top of his voice

You meant the Mafia II' one, right?

It looks impressive indeed :)

It's nice to have the cape/cloak/dress/robe flutters in the wind when the dragon lands or flies off, but it's not on my must-have list.

No,not the Mafia II video. Look for the video titled "Clothing Demo" in the lower right corner of the screen.

Well let's put 2 and 2 together here.

Since it is known that Skyrim has implemented Havok technology and we see in the above video that Benrahir posted what it is capable of,it is rather obvious we will have a pretty neat cloth physics. I am pretty confident about it.

Agreed. It would be nice to have a cape moving in the wind or whatever, but even if it was in, it would be an extremely minor part of the whole experience. Quests, NPCs, skill system, world design and a whole lot of things are far more important than cloth physics.

Exactly.

I'm getting a new PC because what I've got now is way too old. I plan on getting something top-of-the-line for gaming. I'm hoping that Skyrim is going to take advantage of my hardware to the fullest, especially including things like cloth physics.

However, I don't actually expect it, at least not to the extent that you've described. I'll only be slightly disappointed if it's not there at all and it certainly doesn't make or break the game for me.

I bought a new PC just so I can play (and max out) Oblivion. I think the same thing will happen for Skyrim. Every TES title is like a reminder I should buy me a better machine. :user:

I'd say Bethesda should first focus on improving the lighting.

Secondly, they should focus on DX11 if that's not in already, and add some features from that to the game if possible (TESSELLATION...!). In any case, DX11 would increase the performance.

Thirdly, Bethesda should focus on better textures. This includes both hi-res textures and more "depth" in the textures. If tessellation isn't in, they NEED to get a lot of depth into textures another way, or many things will look flat, ugly and unrealistic. Parallax oclussion mapping is a good alternative.

That's it. Cloth physics are not on my list. I don't find them very important, but sure, it's nice. I find everything above a thousand times more important.

I think that cloth physics is very important thing to implement. It is really unrealistic that when being hit with razor-sharpened sword your cloth doesn't even scratch. I think that your cloth items should be destroyed in fights. They should also be able to burn and rot if exposed to moisture.

And we should ofcourse have some form of soap to wash off all the blood...and perhaps a needle to stich the rips... :P

Or we can just be happy with what we get. I know that I will be (I have full confidence in Bethesda).

At least some cloth physics should be implemented. Stiff clothing in this day and age looks primitive.

A very nice thing to have in a game and somewhat important since it makes game really appealing to you eyes, but nothing that Bethesda should worry about in my opinion.
I would really enjoy if that had it, but will survive (somehow) if they don't.

Cloth physics refers to the natural movement of the material when a force is acting against it, so far, no one has invented a realistic system that could simulate real tears and damage.

Actually, havok cloth has had that since pretty much the beginning. I can't see it being used in skyrim because it would really, really annoying.

It's important for modern day immersion but I don't want them to focus on it too much if it gets them side-tracked from other aspects that are much more important.

There are much more important things to focus on then little graphical improvements. I'd say they should only think about cloth physics if it's easy and trivial. And for some with less high powered systems, it might actually be a draw back.

I'd rather them spend resources on quests, lore, interesting NPCs, interesting locations and finds, etc.

From what I've seen so far, the graphics are already spectacular enough.
