Clothes for mages

Post » Mon May 02, 2011 10:52 pm

I love magic characters, but I hate wearing a dress robe, so I just wear clothing.

The only problem I had with the oblivion clothing, was that I'd either look like a clown, poor farmer, or a drug dealer.

I want a middle ground. Maybe something that has soft colors (brown being my favorite) and doesn't look like I just stole it out of a coffin.

Oh well, a boy can dream.

Edit: The only clothing out of oblivion I liked, was the burgundy linen shirt and pants, but they still didn't have a matching hood for it.

The colder setting might have a positive impact on the clothing design; I think we can expect a lot of fur clothing (or clothing that features fur) in Skyrim, for a start.

You can spot a few likely options in the gameplay trailer, too: http://i801.photobucket.com/albums/yy297/b_harrison/skyrim/skyrim_gameplay_settlement1.jpg http://i801.photobucket.com/albums/yy297/b_harrison/skyrim/skyrim_gameplay_stab1.jpg http://i801.photobucket.com/albums/yy297/b_harrison/skyrim/skyrim_gameplay_throat_slit.jpg http://i801.photobucket.com/albums/yy297/b_harrison/skyrim/skyrim_gameplay_village.jpg

Thanks man! I hadn't seen that last picture, and thats almost exactly how I would want my mage to look like.

One thing I really hope for, especially with the cold climate, gloves that aren't armour, having wrist irons as the only option is simply not good enough.

There were gloves that were just clothes instead of armour before, at least in Morrowind.

Hmm... the robes in pic 4 and the dude's clothes in pic 2 seems to be the same. Hadn't noticed that.

I hope that there are robes made from spidersilk that my mage can wear. But even if there aren't I'll just wear the robes from that 4th picture, those look awesome.

I'm sure mods will be all over this kind of thing. But there definitely needs to be a return to Morrowind's system of clothing/apparel or a new one that fixes Oblivion's take on clothes.

If you look really really really close you can see a disclaimer at the bottom of #4 "hood sold seperately"

I just hope that you can make better combinations of clothing that don't totally look like crap, than you could in OB. Some of the "sets" of clothing weren't too bad, but the individual pieces made it difficult find other peices that looked good together. Most of the robes I never cared for in OB so I never wore them either. More like #4 would be nice.

The memories! It just would not be right if you were not forced to dress up like an insane clown in order to wear clothing with high enchant value. A return of the Exquisite Robe from Morrowind would be a very thoughtful easter egg.

My Sorcerers wears normal cloths (fancy and rich ones though). As he doesn't see the formality of magic. Magic comes easily to him, unlike mages who have to study, so the cloths and guilds aren't his thing.

My Pure Mage wears what other mages wear, traditional robes. More than likey what his guild gives him.

My Magi, or Wizard(when he is more powerful), dress like commoners. They study people and their world, so the last thing they want is to stand out. Normal cloths, nothing fancy or expensive, and a worn down robe for their travels.

I think that as Skyrim has a gritty earthly feel, rather than Oblivions street performance feel. Which will mean lots of browns, greens and olive type colours in the clothes rather than the rich reds, blues and yellows.

gamesas has a knack for creating clothing/armor that even juggalos and drag queens would be embarrassed to wear. I don't care if they continue on with this impressive trend as long as there are some plain and simple looking selections that a high level mage that has moved past the traps of the material realm can wear and add high level enchantments to.

Clothing for mages in recent RPG games (as far as I know...) simply look horrible *thinks of Dragon Age: Origins and shudders*. I hope this isn't an issue in Skyrim, it wasn't too bad in Oblivion, but improvement is needed/wanted.

Yeah, it would really add to Skyrim if they implemented nice mages clothing, unlike so many other games. Perhaps also some clothes that aren't robes, by the way.

I hate to reference a different game and different devs, but I really like the mages robes from Dragon Age. I think something like that would be cool for Skyrim.
