Clothes under Armor?

Pretty simple. Most of you know what I'm talking about.

Do you want to be able to wear clothes under armor?

Only if you can see them. otherwise it would just be a way to get more enchantments.

I want all the advantages I can get, so yes! Besides, only Oblivion didn't do it.

YES! I want to be able to wear a robe and put mithril pauldrons, gloves, and boots on. Be sick.

They should bring clothes under armor back.

Bingo, the only reason 99% of people care about it in the first place!

I can see it working if wearing light armor otherwise clothes would not I assume be big enough to cover someone wearing say Ebony or Daedric armor being rather bulky that it is.

If we can see them, yes.

I think that robes should be incompatible with heavy-ass bulky armor with bits and pieces sticking out.

Only if clothes have hitpoints and get worn out by being worn under armor.

I want to see a situation that requires specific clothes. IE new vegas took weapons away in casinos. It would be interesting if they made clothes play an important socioeconomic role

Y'know, for all the praise Morrowind gets for it being immersive, funny how nobody ever things about how bloody impractical it is to try wearing a full suit of clothes under armor, and then over that a full-on mage's-type robe. You'd be like the little brother from A Christmas Story, unable to bend your body more than 30*.

Wearing armor without clothes is like wearing pants without underwear.

There are valid balance reasons against this. One of the reasons you could become so powerful in Morrowind was that you could wear a full set of clothes under a full set of armor and have enchantments on both.

But that was fun, so screw balance.

Well, really, it just makes sense. Iron armor would not be comfy right up against your skin. It would be cold.

Also, hopefully what we wear under our clothes and armour is a bit more varied. I hate it how everyone seems to have the identical pair of knickers.

No, it's clothes under armor.

Forget that, I want to stretch a t-shirt over the 4-foot-wide pointy shoulders of my daedric armor and be the most stupid-looking adventurer ever.

As for comments on the enchantment balance...you know, Bethesda isn't being forced to base enchantment capacities on how many things you're wearing at once. There are other ways you could do enchantment and subsequently skip that problem entirely.

I'm all for bringing this option back. I always thought it was cool when you could see bits of your clothes through the gaps in your armor in Morrowind, and thought it was a bit of a step back when it failed to resurface in Oblivion. I'd also like to see a return of individual mixing-and-matching for guantlets and pauldrons. Oblivion had a lot going for it, but fewer options for armor piece mixing wasn't one of them.

I'd like to see it again, although perhaps scale it down a little from where it was in Morrowind.

I was thinking something like have the layering consist of having two chest slots, an inner and an outer. The inner slot equips shirts and tunics, and the like, while the outer slot equips things like coats and tabards; armor and robes can be equipped in either slot (with only letting you equip one cuirass at a time).

This, I think, maximizes potential looks, without having to worry about having a glut of equip slots. So you can have a robe over or under armor, a robe over a tunic, armor under a tabard, and so on.
