.
There's also a silent footsteps ability.

Most likely for gamers using expensive headsets and sound [censored]s (like myself ^_^)

sniper on cod4 would do that 2 me, he had gilly on and would lay in the grass and turn his sound up full blast he'd hear an ant skittering around the ground i tried it and i couldn't hear anything poor quality speakers  ,though i think it'd make sense for heavy armor to affect your dmg resistance and light armor your movement speed and noise though only if you do it right, like Mass Effects helms making you run faster or something like that makes no sense and shoes don't make and enormous difference like some 12% movement speed increase, i'd like something simple and subtle maybe not even a list of item traits so you have to experiment more sounds ok to me.

Oh, good - because I always end up picking the one that looks better, even if it means I'm weaker.

Me as well, that's why I have a problem with MMORPGs :P
(Except Guild Wars, thank god for having every armor type at max level)

I kind of wish there were some bonuses. As long as there was balance, and each article came with disadvantages too, you wouldn't see too much of everyone picking the same thing. For instance, "The Shield" look provides extra defense, but slows movement and limits agility some. So maybe someone playing a medium on the front lines would be interested in parts of that set up, but it wouldn't necessarily be the best for everyone else. What you would pick would be dependent on play style, not necessarily your class or build, though that would probably also factor in.

customisation with stats=no customisation

if it has any effect on how your character is used, it's part of your "build". not part of your customisation.
just like the only part of customisation on guns is
1) scopes
2) skins

i'll take customisation over stats all the time. the abilities/classes are good enough to work with in my opinion
