Clothing bonuses

Post » Thu Oct 14, 2010 11:24 am

I just want to know if theres any info on whether different clothes affect things like health, i.e wearing 'The Fortress' gives you more health than wearing that vest thing. Or the other way round where if you wear light clothing (vest) then you can move quicker than with heavy clothing (Armour stuff). I hope it dosnt because i dont want to have to base my characters looks on being better in a fight (or getting away from one).

In everything I've read, it's been confirmed that clothing and all appearance-related articles will serve no purpose other than aesthetics.

Oh, good - because I always end up picking the one that looks better, even if it means I'm weaker.

Pure Aestetics. Which is good, that way not everyone looks the same because it's "the best build"

I kind of wish there were some bonuses. As long as there was balance, and each article came with disadvantages too, you wouldn't see too much of everyone picking the same thing. For instance, "The Shield" look provides extra defense, but slows movement and limits agility some. So maybe someone playing a medium on the front lines would be interested in parts of that set up, but it wouldn't necessarily be the best for everyone else. What you would pick would be dependent on play style, not necessarily your class or build, though that would probably also factor in.

That is what annoys me by a lot of MMORPGs for premium outfits, always a 'best set' for costumes making all look same and you choosing between looking cool or looking like a mis-matched fashion failure. The best way to do is give everything the same exact stat [Like shirts +5 damage, pants +3 defense etc] to keep it same.

It has no point then, everyone will still be the same so the bonuses would not have any effect.

I think that because Brink has so much customisation then its good that there are no bonuses because then players will get to see the limits of everyones imagination

This isn't a RPG.

Even though every single piece of clothing grants + 10 appearance.

The only thing that clothes will change is the sound you make while you're moving around.

Taken from the Dev Diary:

"Clearly our movement noises would need to narrate the gameplay, and inform players as to the state of play. With this in mind, we arranged a two-day session with Glen Gathard at Shepperton Studios, including Andrea King as the Foley artist. Armed with a rather large list, we recorded everything from the Foley of clothing (which actually changes depending on how much clothing you have on your character) to the sounds of turrets spinning."

They thought of EVERYTHING. It's just insane how detailed and how much care Splash Damage actually puts into this game.

I stand corrected. Recording isn't the same as clothing having different sounds but the same problem appears if some clothes are more quiet than others.

Clothes decide looks only. Body type decides guns, speed, jump ability, and health. ^_^

I think it makes sense. Some people will probably go ape[censored] about it and find the perfect most silent combination; but I hope they'll just look as ridiculous.

And I'd love to hear if there is a heavy The Fortress next to me or a light The Look.
