Clothing Handled Like Armor

Post » Sun Jul 10, 2011 12:56 pm

If I had to choose (if it was really really impossible to have both), I'd choose children and marriages over separate pants and shirts. We are talking about a new gameplay mechanic versus a largely cosmetic consideration. Sure you could put different enchantments on pants and shirts before, but there are other ways to compensate.

So, pants and shirts being combined isn't really a big deal, is it? You see...I taught you all a lesson.

If Bethesda had more time, they could have possibly separated clothing. Relationships and children took time to make. Do you get it now?

Ummm..... you might not be familiar with 3D modeling, but actually any time invested would be invested in COMBINING the meshes - not in "separating" them, since they actually start out separate anyway.

Bethesda had handled armor/clothing and armor/clothing slots differently in each Elder Scrolls game, to some degree, so I'm personally not all that concerned (Why would they stop, now... years after making the first changes?). I wasn't expecting it and still think that one slot known as armor is far too disproportionately large and important, but I can live with this and was expecting some type of change, anyway. If, by being merged, the new system truly did allow more creativity in armor design (particularly midsections, with this latest change), I'm happy... and regardless of whether it did or not, the armor design in Skyrim looks much better than that of previous Elder Scrolls games. I'm just a bit disappointed that, instead of finding my armor piece by piece, I find this overly important "armor" (all in one item) that covers 80% or more of my character, alone.

Wait a sec... If greaves and cuirass along with shirts and pants are merged... How the hell do you put them on?

Clothing was separate to begin with, champ. Bethesda actually took time and effort to change the system.

Exactly, these decisions were likely made early on.

It wasn't like
"Todd, Todd! We have a problem! We, the programmers, spent so much time working on scripting marriage that the artists can't make separate clothing pieces, so we'll have to spend more time programming them into being one piece instead of 2!"

Yeah, game design doesn't work that way.

Well...maybe they combined them at first, but didn't have time to uncombine them after realizing their mistake? Ever thought of that?

Ugh, armor was bad enough but clothes too? That's it, I'm sorry to say to all of my console brethren that I'm buying a freaking new PC and getting Skyrim on that. I'll be [censored] if I'm going to sit complacent with the product I'm given on the xbox, Mods to the freaking rescue. <_<

No, it isn't. It is like [censored]ing that the grass is always the same height everywhere, and meanwhile they've added the ability to build and customise your own castle.

yeah only the clothing issue is a design choice. a poor design choice that wouldn't take any time away from development.

It sounded like to me that both armors and clothings are having their torso/greaves parts merged in a favor of having clothing piece under a armor. So basically, you get same numbers of pieces as Oblivion since your greaves are now replaced with whatever clothing you wear underneath.

Lol I've tried linux once. And after 15 minutes of trying to open the internet I turned it off for fear of my friend discovering the horible errors I had created. I don't know what I did but I swore never again. I'll stick with windows, it may fail hard but at least I can operate it without breaking anything.
