Cloud Texture Bug

Post » Sun Apr 10, 2011 5:37 pm

So recently, I've finally managed to get a (mostly) bug-free, error-report free, crash and lag-free modded Morrowind, but one problem remains, and all the fixes I've tried don't work. I've checked the textures, I've checked Morrowind.ini, I've Googled but nothing turned up.

The problem is that at any time of the day, the cloud texture is this instead of what it's supposed to be:

Sorry if this is a common problem, it's been a long time since I've modded Morrowind.

EDIT: Through further testing, I'm sure of the following:
  • It's not because of wrong Morrowind.ini weather settings
  • It's not because of isplaced or alpha-less sky textures
  • It's not because of one of my esps, as I ran a binary search, but I'll leave the load order here because you never know
  • Sun disk is visible through the clouds
  • The problem only sets in later in the game, the sky is fine in the beginning. It usually - but I always go there first - starts around Pelagiad or Balmora

Do you use the Steam version of Morrowind? If yes, try to redate the bsa files back to 2002.

Yes, but I already did that, and the problem persists.

Not to belittle your problem, but is there a way to make this as an enabled feature in-game? I mean, it looks kinda cool in a dark and foreboding way

Uh... Use the exact same settings as me for everything, I guess?

As soon as someone comes up with the cause of the problem* I'm sure it'll be easy to cause it intentionally :D

Hi! If you are really sure that it's not one of the plugin (but I would try to disable HelioS - Dark Weather), I have a few ideas that I hope could help you:

- open Morrowind.ini
- find this line "Hours Between Weather Changes=20"
- change it to "Hours Between Weather Changes=6"

If you don't have the same texture for every weather (which seems highly unlikely) there will be 6 hours between weather change instead of the default 20.

Edit:
After some search, I've found out that HelioS Dark Weather comes with its own Morrowind.ini. Maybe you have already done this, but try replacing it with the original one. Also, are you using some replacer for the sky meshes like SWG Skies or similar?

It turns out the cause of the problem is indeed Helios Dark Weather. I guess I didn't notice since all I did while testing the .esps was start a new game and go outside the boat, and then load the save game, but since the bug only sets in later in the game and deactivating the .esp doesn't work retroactively, it always showed up as normal skies outside the boat and the bug in the save game.

Thanks for the help!

You're welcome!!! Out of curiosity, did you replaced Morrowind.ini or just disabling the .esp solved the problem? Also, by checking your load order, it looks like you have several weather mods (Realistic Weather v2.0.esp, k_weather.esp and Sol-Weather Tweak.esp). Maybe they conflict with each other.

I just deactivated the .esp, since I preferred the .ini settings I already had in terms of lighting. The remaining weather mods shouldn't conflict - Sol-Weather Tweak simply overwrites Realistic Weather's regional Solstheim weather with a few different settings for how much it'll snow, and k_weather is an indoor weather sound mod.
