Clutter Me Astounded

Post » Sat Jul 23, 2011 4:17 pm

Apologies for the title, but I had to meet my terrible pun quota for the day or else I wouldn't feel like I've accomplished anything.

Anyways, I've always thought that clutter could have some sort of use aside from just sitting there and being looked at. I'm not talking anything huge like throwing an urn full of Uriel Septim's ashes at dragons to kill themhttp://farm6.static.flickr.com/5095/5412076584_69a7bda906.jpg mainly just more practical uses. What ideas do you guys have for uses for clutter? Some examples to get the gears grinding could be enchanting a crystal ball to glow or just being able to turn over an hourglass and see the time go down.

Feel free to go crazy, though. If that's what you want to do. :batman:

Personally, I would like to be able to melt down 1,000 silver forks using smithing to create a katana named Forkbrand.

They have two item crafting systems in place (cooking and smithing) already. I'm not too clear on how these will work, but if they're like most crafting systems, clutter will probably be among the "ingredients" needed to create items. Not too sure if there will be anything to appease your apparent obsession with silverware, though.

Don't really know if they will do that. Like the fork idea,me I would like to see NPC using the "junk" items such as glasses and brooms but I don't see how it will be introduce to your character to use.

Now that Bethesda has Fallout 3 under their belts I think they'll make use of more clutter for crafting recipes. FO3 did a great job with this and it would be unwise for them to not implement that experience into Skyrim now.

Edit:

Ingredients: Apple, Stick, Moon Sugar

Take said apple, small shaft or weapon hilt and some moon sugar and make a candied apple. Mmm narcotics

I agree with Dvalin. With how TES and Fallout are so closely linked, I think they will do good with clutter.

Did you steal all pf Big Heads Forks? or are you more a four-pronged guy? I'm partial to the rare 5 prong fork.

I like using low value everyday items to trip traps, like rolling a head of lettuce into a trip wire, or using a shove. Things like chunking a brick on a pressure plate.
It would be cool to have a broom enchanted with a levitation spell, though.

I must admit, I have not played FO3 or NV. I wasn't aware of this new wave of clutter support, but I approve.

Magic: In NV, you can use random junk to create some wicked stuff. Anything from tin cans to glue to...useless garbage is probably part of some form of "recipe".

I remember in F3, there was even a use for a TOY CAR.

I really hope recipes come back for Skyrim, I can't wait to make super awesome stuff with random crap!

Or what would be cool? Have a "launch" spell that launches random junk at enemies!!! There was such a weapon in Fallout 3, it should come back, TES style.

Just a little patience....

It would be nice if they added options to recipes like a fork, so you don't to east like a barbian. Or you could just keep the fork.

I don't.

It's clutter. It's there to make the world seem real. It doesn't need a purpose. I mean, yeah, I'm all for animations that make use of clutter like picking up a fork to eat with and things like that, but I fully expect there to be tons of totally useless items in the game. Sometimes clutter is just clutter. It doesn't need to do anything.

Not everything has to be a game mechanic.

What makes the world seem more real than being able to wear a pewter bowl on your head?

Seriously though, you're pretty much right. That is the purpose of those items; they aren't supposed to do anything, but that makes it all the more sweeter when you find they can actually do just a little something... even something stupid or small. That's just what I think, and those are the moments I like the most in video games.

Fallout 3's clutter made a lot more sense for crafting than Oblvion's does.

I wish they had it to where you could gather enough random metals; forks, spoons, etc, etc... To melt down and make armor/weapons with.

The materials that they make their cutlery out of had better be the same thing that they make their weapons out of.... If not, you'll end up with a very flimsy sword that'll bend when you've just dug into a fresh pint o' Dragon's Blood ice cream...

It would be spiffy if you could just melt down certain items to get the materials, like getting silver and gold by destroying silver and gold utensils, plates, etc. I'm also all for crafting recipes, although it is true that clutter from Fallout 3 made much more sense in crafting than ES clutter...

I fuller support the Forkbrand Initiative though. If I had modelling skills I would get to work on that right now.

Pick up a broom and be able to chase the cat out of the house (not Kahjit...well maybe).

I've always wanted to be able to enchant objects with Light to use in decorating.

Hope Bethesda or a modder will provide us with mannequins for displaying our phat lewts.

Maybe they'll have a DLC that will allow one to paint with the brush and pallette on an easel, I doubt this would be something out-of-the-box.

If they provide an editable journal would be kewl to have animation for quill and ink well usage.

and I could think of more....

No mater what I :tes:

Cheers!

I'll second that notion. :foodndrink:

But I would not be opposed to finding a few "needle in a haystack" useful item covered in clutter ~sometimes.

It did. I didn't even think about that, I was focused on TES.
