Mw code patch does not patch

Post » Thu May 19, 2011 12:50 pm

hi all.

I have a small vexing problem with the morrowinf code patch. the latest version.

I installed morrowind..tib..bloodmoon, a while back and pached the mw exe up with code patch.

Then I had to uninstall the game and reinstall the game again. I had cleared out all the code files too, before reinstall.

But now I cannot apply the patch! Even as I reinstalled the new code patch into an empty Morrowind folder, the patcher insists that everything is patched and will not let me patch the *new* morrowind exe patched up to 1820!!

I figure that there must be some hidden file somewheres in my win 7 system, with configuration material on it, but where?

so just how does one repatch a new game install exe, with codepatch, after have deleted all the files, to setup for a new install, then patch the new exe with codepatch: surely the code patch will detect a new exe, but no!

If i cannot find out here, looks Like i cannot use the code patch at all.

thanks...freestone

Can you copy/paste the exact message you get from the Code Patch?

Did you apply the .exe Optimizer first?

no optimizer or other programs run.

actually I tried to install a new section by checking it. the message says that this is patched successfully. the other checked boxes are not applied.
*as if* there is a Memory somewheres that say that the exe is already patched.

there is no error message, that one patch is applied successfully and that is it: no other patches are applied!
end of program, success!!

so how do i get the rest of the checked boxes to apply. I even tried to uncheck all the boxes and even to "uninstall".

the error message was then....."morrowind.original.exe not found". of course: i deleted it when reinstalling morrowind!

mw exe is 1820.

??????

Well, the patch succeeded - isn't that what you wanted?

You seem to expect that you get additional "success" messages for each checkmark you set. I don't think that's the case (though I can't check that myself right now).

Have you checked in-game whether the changes have been applied to the exe or not?

"success"?
only that one checkbox was successful!

but the other boxes applied to the previous install of morrowind. as I understand this, the "new" install mw exe is not patched.

I have to go, be back later, sorry I am not clear.....freestone

When you uninstall MW, you need to make sure all references to MW have been removed. Do you clean your Windows registry? Things may get left behind in your registry when you uninstall MW. Don't know if you check for this or not.

You only get one success message, no matter how many boxes you check. As I said above, you seem to expect that the Code Patch gives out several success messages if you select several checkboxes, but it doesn't. It gives one success message for the entire operation.

I think you have applied the Code Patch successfully, each time you tried it. You just kept/keep thinking that you didn't. Check in game whether the changes really haven't applied.

Or, a more hands-on way to explain it:
- You install Morrowind
- You start the Code Patch
- You select as many checkboxes as you want
- You click "apply chosen patches"
- The program applies the patch, with all options you want, and gives you _one_ success message
- This means that the exe has been successfully patched with all the options you selected.

@Raed: registry problems are unlikely to be the problem here, I don't think the Code Patch even accesses the registry.

@freestone: If you still think that the patch doesn't work, please do what I said above and copy/paste the exact message that the Code patch gives out. You can mark it in the code patch window, copy it, and then simply paste it here.

If you want to see whether all the changes you checked off in the MCP have worked, click the MCP executable, again. If the boxes you previously marked off are still checked, it all worked. If they aren't, the changes you implemented didn't take.

I thank you all for bearing with me. "when it said "patch successfully applied" just for the one added square checked, i was concerned. but at the end the checks are there so it took.

i noted that the exopt tool was not used, the instruction told me not to use it before patching.

is it safe to also exopt patch this exe?

thank you for your patience; my "definition troubles" in writting.

I've patched using Timeslip's EXE Optimiser (use http://timeslip.users.sourceforge.net/exeopt.html for Vista / Win7) and it works fine, just make sure you do it after the MCP. Which you have but others reading may not...

PS. Nice to see you back around here

thanks dragon.

I did not know there was a win 7 version!

I better play this here game on *this* computer before either it or I pass away. I will be 70 in a month.

While waiting for the Oblion war cry new-directions newest version, I wondered......here I "treated" my self with a 5770 ati videocard to upgrade from my 5570 ati card, even though my slow processor probably will not show the glory of that card, I think I better get a morrownd going, that new card might give to me a few more fps..

so many mods. And tis interesting how some mods "age" over they years too. some of the "5-star" mods are now seen as having critical errors or problems and sometimes an older mod is not updated much so that newer mods will conflictand without resolutions.

oh the mysteries of Mrrownind world.. I have added all the Roman mods that I can find that work, to give to me a flavor of old Europe, maybe Germany or england, after Rome leaves, some stay behind and sort of contnue the Roman traditions into whatever is next.

I like that word" Holy Roman Empire"! not really Roman or very holy, but what amazed me was just how many kingdoms there were in it! 60...80...100+ ?!! some kingdoms one could walk across in a day!

onwards.....freestone
