Coin Shot and it's potential usefulness

Post » Thu Apr 02, 2015 7:26 am

Sorry if it's been stated before, I tried searching on the Forum for such a topic but it doesn't seem to form when It type in "Coin Shot". So Here goes:

Has anyone found the Coin Shot useful? I haven't crafted some yet in my recent Shottie playthrough and it's been a long while since I set foot into the Mojave Wasteland. It seems on paper it would be one of the most uber ammo types in-game, listed here:

-Damage Multiplier: x1.3

-DT Modifier: -2

-Pellets: 8

-Spread: 1

-Degradation: x1.0

-% of getting shell back: 0%

Overall it seems like a potentially powerful ammo type for shotties, with the only con being the lack of chance of getting your hulls back to create more. It would also seem to be a powerful crit-making ammo, having one more pellet in each shell instead of 7, meaning more crit damage. Lemme know what y'all think, fellow wastelanders.

I don't use it much, but I can say it's pretty damn funny blowing off Caesar's head with it.

Maintain a positive enough reputation with the Legion to get access to the Legion Dropboxes. Return the Coin at the battle for the Dam.

Never used shotguns and stuff, never liked them that much.

When I read the name the first time in-game, I thought it would create money on hit. Silly me.

What I wonder is, who would be stupid enough to attempt to create shells out of money!?

No more stupid than creating a mine using bottlecaps.

A Deputy that was watching Bill the Kid had supposedly packed a Shotgun with Dimes, and had the Gun used against Himself. I can imagine how they would work in a close range shot.

Honestly, I find better use of the coins turning them into caps at the casinos. OR using them to get chips and then earn thousands of caps at the casino.

I've found the ammo pretty darn good, the extra chance of a critical with the appropriate build can cause really good damage.

I've never used Coin Shot. It seems similar to magnum buckshot, except for the extra pellet.

My shotgun character used only regular buckshot and slugs, and a few pulse slugs, the whole way through.

He wasn't a high crit guy though, so that might make a difference.

I always figured they just put it in the game as a joke reference to the Resident Evil movies.

In game I've never used them, primarily used handloaded buck.

This is what I was thinking about primarily. Also I never see a point in 'money' in NV...I mean seriously people, caps are basically raining from the heavens, and after a stroll through Vegas, Primm and Freeside, money doesn't become an issue, it becomes a joke.

I think you mean just Magnum, Magnum Buckshot is that 4 pellet shot one but that's cool to know it's basically upgraded version of the Magnum...I guess?

I've been using a sawed-off shotgun for most of my play. I always craft coin shot when I have the opportunity. But I tend to be less fussy over ammo type and more so with my character's skill.

Yeah I meant just "regular" magnum. Never have used the 4/0 type.

It seems that Coin Shot is a slightly upgraded version of Magnum.

Given how powerful Shotgun Surgeon+And Stay Back make any shotgun, the differences between buckshot, magnum, 4/0 and coin shot may be small.

And I agree that money is not an issue, unless you are buying all the unique weapons.

My shotgun gal uses 12 slug like a armor piercing (otherwise, the robots takes the shoots like a boss) and a 12 magnum for low armor enemies.

Coin shot is very cool, but the magnum is better and cheaper.

sorry for poor english.

Well, this is true. But i like to finish the game rich. its like a compulsion to me.

I'm reminded of a Chinese Assassin in the anime Ghost in the Shell. She was "against" capitalism and used rolls of "yen" for ammo. Her target was a very rich recluse and in that instance, I can see using money as a form of ammo :)

In New Vegas, though, I stick the usual ammos :)

I save them from minute one of the game, and then pay Caesar- and his bodyguard- in their own coin when I and some companions assault the Legion compound. As for their monetary worth; later in the game, the player should be able to accumulate literally hundreds of thousands of caps. The coins that the player collects will be worth no more than a paltry fraction of this, so money is a non- issue.
