I listened to Pete speak, and watched him drift back off again before walking over to him. I checked him out, testing his reflexes and examining his muscles, before coming to a realization.
The ripper had done severe damage to his nervous system. Irreparable damage. Damage that could only be fixed by... non-natural ways.
I looked up at the smoke that was floating around the sky, and back at Pete.
Maybe I... No. I couldn't do that to him. I couldn't make him like me... a monster. I looked at him, and decided it wasn't a choice I should make. He should be the one.
I nudged him awake, and looked up at the smoke, choosing my words carefully.
"The ripper, the one that damaged your chest. It did severe damage to your nervous system. It will never heal naturally. I've looked through all of my knowledge and you have two choices. You live the life of a cripple, with minimal control of your own body, or you become a monster like me. A cold, calculating android. I have the information I need on how to perform the operation that they did on me, and I just need another android, that is in prime condition, to take parts from. I can't make this choice for you. I know that later in life, whatever you choose, you will regret your decision at one point, you just have to choose which you will regret the least."
I shook my head, turning my head from the sky and looked right into his eyes.
"Make your choice and I will honor your decision. I will never abandon you, brother."
