Collector's Edition Worth it?

I like the content, except that big ugly pvc dragon. If only it was smaller...

I'm a huge TES fan, and an artist, so I'm getting the collector's edition pretty much for the 200 page art book. Pretty excited to watch the 'making of' dvd as well. But it's a lot of money for a book a short dvd so unless you're a hardcoe fan I can't really say it's worth it.

Wasn't there a thread just like this like 3 days ago?

Hell no, imho the dragon is a giant paper weight that even if I DID get the CE would only serve as a trinket to get cash from on Ebay
The Artbook is what I really what besides the game of course BUT we all know the making of DVD will be put on youtube in a few months and the artbook scanned within a few weeks after release so the only thing worth having is the game

Thus saying that, if they made a CE with only the Game, Artbook and DVD and another item either DLC or physical non dragon related I would gladly pay $80-$100 for that!

Thus I will only look at the artbook so many times before I put it away to collect dust, look at the DVD when I get bored so all in all no way is it WORTH IT at THAT PRICE IMHO!

(Getting the normal game, and CE guide)

No. I do however want the Russian collector's edition dragon http://img.elderscrolls.net/news/Skyrim_drakon.jpg.

Hopefully I can get my hands on it without having to pay $150+.

I would happily pay $200 for just the game itself, so yes. These games are few and far between. Since Oblivion released in 2006, people have spent over $300 on yearly reskinned CoD games. Give me a break.

Its worth it if you collect statues and books, otherwise no.

I would buy it if it was 50 bucks cheaper and only had a soundtrack+art book.

Remove the statue and add the soundtrack and I'll gladly pay 80 bucks.

See to me that would just be boring. If your going to make a collector's edition you better make it standout and that's exactly what the foot tall Alduin statue does.

To me its well worth it as I am a huge TES and Bethesda fan for the op its sounds like its not worth while.

$150 is a little steep for me as well. Sure i could go buy it, but theres not enough product for me to be interested in buying it for $150. i would of bought it at around $85.

Well, no. I don't think it is worth it, but, as I have said before...I didn't let that stop me, and I have it on pre-order.

Also, Dragonborn1 has a very good point there. Games of this magnitude are really few and far between. That
is probably what made me go for the big one, and the the big guide.

This is a subjective question. It depends entirely on your sense of value. Only reason I'm getting it is because my fiancee' is paying for it, so. . . It's really up to you.

Economics 101!! Good on ya, mate.

What idiot decided it shouldn't have the soundtrack?

Agreed.

I'm not getting the Colector's edition. My best friend is. He'll keep the darn statue, and we'll look through the art-book together, and I'll have my compact case and game all to myself.

He thought it was worth it, so he'll be getting it. I REALLY would have enjoyed it if the sountrack was added. Also could include the game-guide, but I guess not...

From what Pete has said, it seems like a stand-alone soundtrack won't even be available until after the game's release, so maybe that is why it is not included in the CE (because it technically doesn't exist yet).

Also, I still don't understand the argument that the art book and making of dvd are worthless because they will be available illegally for free on the internet eventually. The same thing will be true of the game itself. It is not more ethical or legal to view such content just because it is in your web browser and not via torrent or whatever...

It mainly depends on the person. But IMO, $150 is way too much.

No way it's worth it, who even wants a ginormous dragon statue anyway? But that didn't stop me from preordering the collector's edition. :P

If you are a huge TES fan, then you will most likely want the CE (though it is a bit pricy, it's at least worth it to me).

If not, then I'd recommend getting just the standard version.

Its worth it... look at how much them statues sell for without any extras and I'm sure you would agree. Anyway I've already got mine ordered, life's too short to moan about prices when we get ripped off on most other things anyway and I had the money sat in the bank so I thought I'd treat myself :-P. Its my favourite game series and not like were going to have another TES game for at least 5 years so I consider it money well spent.

It's overpriced for the stuff you get. I think i want to get because i'm a fan but then I'll be wasteing a lot of money since the only good thing is the artbook. On http://www.gamestop.com/xbox-360/games/the-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim-collectors-edition/92867 they have these trade in offers where if you trade in a game you get 30% trade bonus. You can do that with the collector's edition so I'm gonna trade in mw2 and get the game for about $20 off.

It's terribly overpriced for what it is: the content is quite poor compared to e.g. The Witcher 2 and even Duke Nukem Forever, as well as other recent examples; all for less than half the price Bethesda are asking, too. If there's no other way of getting the art book... well, it's still not exactly worth it, and I think Bethesda are ripping off their fans by providing such little content for such an obscene amount of money. And I don't care how big the "high quality PVC" statue is, it's still a lump of cheap plastic.

Last time I looked (admittedly not for a year or more) you could still buy a vintage, unused Morrowind CE for less money than the Skyrim CE is selling for.

Nope!
Reasons:
1 - While it looks nice, it's still nothing special for a CE.
2 - It's too damn expensive!

So, not only it lacks for a CE, but it's also more expensive than ones which don't.
Here, just compare http://www.elderscrolls.com/community/bethesda-softworks-announces-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim-collectors-edition-0/ with http://eu.starcraft2.com/features/collector/, for example.
Just remember that SC2 CE costs 100€ compared to 150€ for Skyrim CE.

Also, in my opinion, a video game shouldn't cost more than 60€ and CE of that game shouldn't cost more than 100€.
CE should also be made out of at least:
- Art book.
- Soundtrack CD.
- Behind the scenes DVD.
- One or two extra items which are have something to do with the game.

As you can see, Skyrim doesn't even cover the basics (no soundtrack CD), but costs much more than CEs which do.
I'm sorry, but that's called ripping off.

I personally won't buy Skyrim CE as a matter of principle (I don't like being ripped off).
If soundtrack CD was also part of the CE and it cost 100€ instead of 150€, then I would gladly pay for it!
But now, no way!

Normal edition, on the other hand, is worth it's money! ^_^
