Collision Detection. Yay, Nay, or Huh?

Post » Tue Mar 18, 2014 11:11 am

I don't make a habit of running into npc's. so I forgot they added collision detection. so for me it's "huh?" as I didn't notice any difference in combat this past weekend. what are your thoughts on the collision detection?

Melee characters definitely see the effects of collision detection far more, but personally don't care for it either way unless they add it to PvP as well. For all the faults (design and otherwise) that Warhammer Online had, collision detection was great in PvP because it meant actually being able to block a doorway with your tanky characters.

Yeah i didnt notice it on my level 15 sorcerer at all , but on my level 17 dual wield nightblade , i thought collision was great for melee gamplay, melee targetting would have been a horrible experience without it. So for me its a Yay.

I never once had an issue getting through a blocked door in WAR, someone always broke the wall letting me through to the backfield. Such a shame they went with a two faction system could have been so much more then it was.

I'd just assume keep the collision limited to the hostile NPCs, and maybe hostile PCs at most. Having the friendly NPCs in towns have collision was pretty much just annoying, its did nothing to enhance realism for me personally. And of course giving friendly PCs collision would just inspire trolls to blockade things.

In a way I see NPC collision needed however it should not apply to player summons.

If I just walk through everything in the game I will lose the feeling actually being in the game, it would be like I'm in parallel dimension and the dimensions are in top of each other. I don't mind running through other players, it doesn't break the feeling for me.

Also makes you think your positioning in combat so that you will not corner yourself.

I like it, adds to the immersion factor quite a bit. Although it would be nice if they had a little more give to them than your average iron golem.

I like and hope in the future to see it in pvp when fighting against enemy PC's. So easy to stun and run through a player to strike from behind with another stealth attack.
