Columbia OOC Thread #21

The year is 2282. It has been five years and a month since the Lone Wanderer arose from Vault 101 and set into play a series of events that changed the Wasteland forever. The Brotherhood, with the support of the Lone Wanderer, led an assault against the Enclave and destroyed Raven Rock. Yet in light of the attack, the Enclave launched a counter-assault upon the Citadel, where the Brotherhood barely managed to hold on. Many of the Brotherhood were lost, including the Lone Wanderer, who was struck down in battle against the Enclave's Supreme Commander, Alan Sutler. Furious at the death of their compatriots and the damage done by vertibird bombings, the Brotherhood made a last stand against the Enclave at Project Purity. Although the battle was long and costly, the Brotherhood prevailed and forced the Enclave into a full-scale retreat. The few Enclave outposts remaining throughout the Wastes were left to fend for themselves until they could mount a rescue mission. However, despite the Brotherhood's claims to victory, the loss of life and destruction wrought prevents either side from truly claiming glory.

Within the last five years, numerous city-states have risen to power: Megaton, as well as Olney and the Talon Company have all been absorbed by the Enclave, quite willingly. The Outcasts have rejoined the Lyons Brotherhood after the arrival of the Midwestern Brotherhood of Steel, who brought news of a new home for them all. The Tenpenny Tower has annexed the Warrington Train complex and has since become a regional power, known as De Burgo. Girdershade, which was once a hub of trade, has now been overrun by cultist Super Mutants.

The Canterbury Commons has become a commercial center for all Capital Wasteland trade, now known as the Merchant Union; while raids from the Pitt, and the threat of enslavement by Paradise Falls keeps the North in fear. Eventually, however, the North reluctantly signed a peace treaty with the Regulators and Capital Rangers, alongside the Mattheson Militia. Just down south lies the mysterious land of Point Lookout, which brought the Swampfolk to the Capital Wasteland seeking trade. Despite this, their naturally hostile nature has soured relations on multiple occasions, leading to an assault by the Talon Company, hired by the Merchant Union. Rivet City still remains the premium supplier and manufacturer of firearms, despite competition.

Hey now, all Casey is doing is asking questions. We'll take those into account when we start moving along in the IC thread. Don't forget the plan isn't set in stone, and will need to be changed soon enough. So unless anyone has a problem with that, let's get the plot moving. Or stop arguing.

And, like Casey, I'm not trying to be a dike either. But I do think this needs to be discussed in some manner:

1. I think at least some consideration should be given to the possibility that the mutants might detect them coming over the walls. And even if they do get over, freeing hostages and escaping wouldn't be an easy task. Once discovered, they're like to get cut down completely. However Ghostly has indicated that he does expect high casualities.

2. I assume they do, but there's a radioactive filled trench or something surrounding it, so presumably they would need to get over that and then move to the gate, all the while taking fire from the super-mutants. Its possible, but I would expect high casualties there as well.

3. Maybe, but at the same time alot of reliance seems to be given to the compound to knock out the mutants ability to fight back. If it doesn't work the way Pinkerton thinks it will, its going to cause alot of causalities for the attackers.

Here's an idea. We delay this attack. Call it a mini timeskip if you want. But, we send this weapon the frontlines of the Regulators' little war on the DC mutants. A couple of RSF snipers test it, if it works, then great, if it doesn't, then Rivet City can make the proper adjustments.

We're trying to rush things so as not to postpone the time skip, and we shouldn't.

1. Yeah, we're going to have to discuss more tactics, and work on our plan.

2. Thankfully Power Armor can take a lot of damage. Lore wise small arm fire shouldn't even affect it. But it's not the small arm fire that should worry us. Snipers should protect the BoS as they approach, but who's to say how effective that would be.

3. Theoretically two points of contact, and a diversion would be sufficient in most cases, though this isn't a normal case. Shame we don't have any Midwest Super Mutants to advise us? It would be a good idea to have a few of them join the meeting.

That sounds like a better idea. I can always have a Tracker update us on the status of the hostages, saying they're all dead. So we can take more time to prepare and test out the compound. And gather more aid. In IC.

If the Republic is called upon for help, it would not shy away.

Reynalds and Gamor's forces are currently limping their way back to the Citadel. If the attack is soon they won't be able to do much in the way of fighting, but they might be able to advise you on Unity tactics and such.

Just an idea on how to cross the moat: Why not bore a hole into the centre of a pillar of Pre-War freeway and put an explosive with a high explosive power (Shhh, I don't know the technical term) and remotely detonate it once all their units are safely outside the fall radius.

Also, if no one opposes it, maybe a Takoma team comes up with that plan? Maybe the ones helping the BoS near Bethesda? I'd rather not have my team be in the fray since they're more a support unit than combat, but I still want to help be a part of the Unity assault.

Edit: In regards to Tiberius' post on Talon's loyalties- I am inclined to agree with Tib. Mercenaries are today's sellswords. A sellsword through and through doesn't give a (Let's say 'duck') about being noble pseudo-knightly orders or heroes, they care about their survival. I doubt TC would accept a job that paid 3k but the risk was against their favour. Ultimately, I feel Tib is making a much more true representation of Talon than the BS their previous RP incarnation was. Is it annoying when something in the RP doesn't tip in your favour? Yeah. Is Enclave holding a monopoly on a lot of things? Yeah. Am I annoyed he doesn't actually do things that suffer serious loss? Yeah. But it's ultimately part of the game. For a time, Olney under Chang had me having a monopoly on that slice of the CW and under whatshisface I killed off the Republic of Dave. The chips stack and the chips fall, good things happen for your faction and bad things do too. Come the time skip, my faction will be thriving to an extent, which contrasts their struggling nature. They'll still be struggling mind you, they're in the bones of D.C., but it's all part of the game and I feel it adds a strong layer of realism. Enclave has risen to power as a top player because he got lucky in some cases (My handing over Olney OOC in order to pursue a new arch) and he won fairly. Tiberius is playing a highly skilled merc team led by a highly skilled old merc. You dont get old in the merc profession by being headstrong and wreckless and Tib has shown Pierpoint is none of those things.

As to what Tiberius suggested: would Sutler be open to assisting in this sort of thing? And can he be trusted?

Instead of trying to scale the walls, it might be easier to demolish them. This won't even require sappers: just fire a few well-aimed mini-nukes or concentrated missile fire at the walls and watch them crumble.
