Combat and Utility robot companions

Greeting!

As you probably know in Fallout 4 we will visit the famous Institute mentioned in Fallout 3, this organization is known to possess advanced technology and even created a true artificial intelligence (AI) and androids.

That got me thinking, what if we will have robot or robots as companions?

Maybe we even can upgrade them with our science and repair skills (i am positive these two skills are still present in Fallout 4).

For example science skill will be useful to upgrade robot's software part (more efficient/complex decryption algorithms resulting in disabling higher level alarms, hack more complex computer terminals, improve it's target acquisition software resulting in improved robot's accuracy, recoil compensation software for automatic firing)

And repair to upgrade robots armor, maybe even swap it's metal legs to chassis or even some kind of anti-gravitational engine like we saw in a trailer on USS Constitution ship, upgrade it's weapon to rocket-launcher,flame-thrower or grenade launcher. Maybe even improve it's actuators and mount a chainsaw or a pneumatic hammer on them, swapping to a more potent/more efficient nuclear battery.

Of course it will need to be balanced, mounting rocket launcher should require rare parts, high skill and even specific perks.

Not only it will be fun, it will allow of existence of essentially non combat characters in the game.

I started non combat char's several times in fallout 3 and new vegas but i could not go through the game without lvling up and using at least one of my combat skills.

So, what your thoughts on this idea?

We've had at least one robotic companion in every game since Fallout 2. I've no doubt we'll get one again. With Lonesome Road, ED-E could be upgrade to perform a multitude of non-combat related functions, including repairing your weapons and doubling as a crafting station. It could happen, but it could just as easily be something they never even considered. I voted that it wouldn't, because as far as I know, the only non-combat use any Bethesda companions have had in the past has been carrying things for you.

I could go for some robot wars style tournament where you can gamble caps on the winner or maybe even make and upgrade your own robot, "the first rule of robot wars fallout club is NO EMP GRENADES! The second rule etc".

Ha ha yeah that would be cool ;)

Especially if it would be done in term of never ending "daily quests" where robots have with randomized characteristics for each fight and you knew only if it is a melee robot, ranged combat robot with automatic weapons or laser/plasma,etc...

That could also yield several interesting quests, like improve/rig arena robot who you bet on/bet against, find some ancient and powerful pre-war robot for the arena, etc...

I couldn't vote! No option for both a bod and a handy mechanical ally.

I am sure we will see robotic companions in Fallout 4. I believe that there has been at least one in nearly every other Fallout game, so I'm sure we will have many adventures with our favorite bucket-o-bolts.

I'm down for robots, but I'm thinking we'll get an entirely new model to boss around. Everything other than Mr. Handies/Gutsies and Eyebots wouldn't be able to keep up or navigate with us.

And I'm almost positive we'll get an android companion, if that counts.

Yeah i like robots too, but the central question is will they be up-gradable via own skills or not.

I liked ED-E, but for non combat character he did not had enough firepower ;)

There might even be an android, which is technically a robot. The guy in the trenchcoat and hat, looking like an old detective walking under the street lamp in the trailer was an android. His right hand is clearly mechanic
