Combat Physics - More realism needed.

Post » Sun Dec 11, 2011 2:26 pm

I wonder if it would be possible for Beth to add a game option for more realistic combat physics.

So that when your dude lifted a greater sword or battle axe it wasn't like lifting a peice of balsa wood up.

All creatures, men, cats, lizards, orcs etc would have different strengths depedning on their race and the lifting of weapons and sheilds which in the real world would be really heavy would affect combat?

Good idea or rubbish?

So...argonians couldn't fight at all because there hands are wet from playing in the water and the sword slips out of it all the time? bad idea.

They could buy towels from the local shop for local people.

More realism in terms of animations perhaps, but Skyrim is leaps and bounds ahead of Oblivions.

I am wary of improvements that move the series towards Call of Duty: Fantasy Warfare.

Umm... how heavy do you think two-handed swords are? (Answer: Less than 8 lbs) Battle axes and warhammers are no more than 12 lbs. (The encumberance number is a function of weight and length, not weight alone)

Also, while the races may have some greater inherent strength than others (Represented by higher starting weapon and block skills), a Khajiit can become effectively "stronger" than a Nord (Represented by a really high weapon skill - particularly two-handed weapons). If they wanted more realistic combat, they'd make two-handed swords faster than they are currently (I feel like I'm trying to fight with a Spud Bar instead of a well-crafted, combat-ready sword!)

They should have given their animation actors weight accurate weapons during the animation recordings. :)

I've seen alot of this guys posts tonight and I'm surprised he hasn't been warned already, they've all been... "questionable" at best.
But the 2H sword animation and physics are fine, its noticeably slower than 1H/Shield.

You wanna know what The Elder Scrolls is missing in combat and all else? (it dosen't need to be a super hyper realistic combat, but a much better one yes), then read this topic http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1292333-true-feedback-and-evaluation-of-skyrim/#entry19478485

They hand-made all the animations; they didn't use mo-cap, so they didn't have any actors for animation recording.

Personally, I don't see what the OP is seeing. The animation of all the heavy weapon types (axes, maces, and pretty much all 2-handers) look like it has some heft to it in the animation.

That's why rpgs usually have a minimum strength requirement for most items. There's no strength stat in Skyrim though.

In terms of animations, I guess they might look off if you're playing a scrawny mage with a huge battleaxe. I never felt that but maybe mods can do that.

In real life the war hammers would weigh a ton!
