Combat seems too easy....

Post » Fri Aug 26, 2011 6:57 am

I've been reading several of the journalists posts and I have about had enough. All I see is the "Slaughtering" monsters, knocking them off cliffs, and fighting things that are "no match for them".

I get the dragons will be a challenge.... but the way the journalists are describing they are mopping the floor with every monster they encountered.

There should be monsters we run away from every once in awhile and when we see 5 undead it shouldn't be shoot one AOE spell and start hacking and slashing all 5 down. Sure it might be fun but there better be a challenge.

Thoughts? I want a challenge that sometime I know I can't win so I back off or choose another route. What do you guys think?

Example: http://www.ripten.com/2011/08/25/one-hour-with-skyrim-finally-made-me-a-true-believer-hands-on/4/

That made me mad....... Killing a monster with one slash is completely stupid.

The only monsters they've really fought so far are wolves and maybe the occasional bandit. Plus if you think it's too easy when you play just turn the difficulty up.

Most of them never got in a fight with a strong enemy and I'm pretty sure the diffculty was turned down to make sure they wouldn't die too often and be unable to explore.

I do agree with your point that there should be sufficient challenge in the game.

This. Also, don't they all play on like, Todd mode or something?

My first Skyrim montage will be of me killing things while listening to "Bodies". It's a song that nobody uses in montages these days.

How much of it did they get to play? I doubt that they were able to venture out too far `-`

Also no telling right now what they are going to be like in the normal game. Have to remember this is an Alpha build they are seeing. I'd be willing to wager its going to be stronger on release. I mean think about it, who wants to read a review that says...."Well it looks amazing, but I got killed every two minutes by everything that moved."

They prob had it on easy, and within an hour (minus char. creation time), they probably didn't venture far enough away from the starting zone to encouter anything really life threatening.

I'd be very disappointed if the game never makes me go "oh S**T, it's going to eat me!"

I'm hoping a sizable number of areas or dungeons have handcrafted encounters or have static foes in them, and are technically accessible at low levels.

The thing is if they even were on easy one hitting is ridiculous especially after JUST starting a new character. Whats the point in building my character up when I can go up to a guard on a horse and kill him that easy...... it makes me sick. Guards should kick your [censored] at the beginning. It is fun to progress your character and with time know you can stand a chance against something. It builds your character better rather than coming out and slaughtering everything in your path........ that's not RPG-like

The previewers started with a lot of equipment i don't know anything about there level or skill levels. Another thing is that ripten person said he had trouble with the vampires and one player even said they died

1) Everything we've seen, the demo char has been in Todd Mode.
2) Very Hard difficulty. We've seen nothing but normal difficulty.

They probably had the difficulty on the easiest setting so they could get more out of their 1 hour, i would do the same thing as well ^_^ but when it comes to playing the game for real, i will probably play it on the hardest setting, if not second hardest :toughninja:

They've all been playing a build made for the single purpose of working as a demo preview for articles, these people only have one hour to play, they're not meant to die and start over, they were most likely invincible and all enemies rather harmless.

Isnt it really obvious if you think about it, a lot of pre-view builds are like this, Skryim basically has to be like this.

Anyone who doesnt understand this obvious fact is rather unintelligent.

I want challenge too but I dont want combat to be tedious. Everyone should go down relatively quickly. The player as well as monsters and bandits. And there should be enemies that you cant defeat and you have to run as well as enemies that are weak and easy to defeat. Keep scaling to a minimum.

The demo had the player with 999 health, and 100 points in a few major skills, like block.. I highly doubt that will be the case when we get our hands on the game.

If they make the player character super high level or invincible or whatever, how are we supposed to get an accurate picture of how this game will play? Will enemies always go down in a few hits, but the player can also? Will enemies take a few minutes to wear down? Will I need to employ blocks and bashes and dodges to stay alive, or will it be just as easy to smash an enemy repeatedly until they fall over?

What exactly is the point of these previews if not to showcase how the game will play?

The point is to avoid dying against more powerful enemies and having to start all over again.
