Combat with Dragons and different types

Post » Sun May 29, 2011 1:01 am

This is just an idea, and hopefully my beloved Bethesda would look into it, but as I played D&D in the past I've learned about the different types of dragons, for example (taken from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dragon_(Dungeons_%26_Dragons)#True_Dragons):
Nickel Dragon
Breath weapon: Cone of corrosive gas (acid damage)
Terrain: Swamp and marshland

or

Shadow dragon
Breath weapon: Energy-draining shadows (Magicka-draining)
Terrain: Underground
Notes: Shadow dragons are the second most intelligent evil dragons.

or

Emerald dragon (From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gem_dragon_(Dungeons_%26_Dragons))
Breath weapon: Powerful burst of wind.
Terrain: Lush green forests.

And there are so many more, but I think that if each Dragon would be in a different habitat and there would be a variety of them combat against them would be so interesting and so nice! I mean there might even be quests such as "Kill that Dragon" or if there are no quests like that then maybe if you encounter a Dragon you can't fight you can go a nearby town and ask them about its weak spots etc.

Combat would be very interesting if there would be different Dragons to fight against, we'll have to use different strategies and all. Fighting the same dragon + just getting stronger so making it easier would get boring after a while, so why not make it better?

What do you think? Should we get different types of Dragons?

Sorry if it's against the lore, but I'm sure that 1) Evolution does happen, even in Nirn and that 2) The gods are not that boring to create a race that are all exactly the same!)

AND I want to see a cool cutscene in which I'm walking near the water and then out of nowhere a Dragon just rises from the river/sea to my side and starting a fight!! :P That would be absolutely EPIC!
Or same with me walking near an Icy hill/mountain/cave and then seeing a pile of snow or a big icy block started to move/crack and a Dragon popping out of it! :P or stuff like that! :P

I hope you read this Bethesda and consider it, I'm sure that it would make the game even more mind-blowing than it would be! :P

BTW a little out of context but: Does anyone gonna count and make sure there are 7000 steps when the game comes out? xD

i dont like it, feels too much like that movie how to train your dragon . . . they said there will be different dragons, which i personally dont like. only thing id like them to vary in is their size and they all should breathe fire

Variety is the spice of life. And, no two people are the same (excluding twins), so why would all the dragons be the same?

LOL D&D came a hell lot of time before HTTYD! And I don't think they are going to look cute like in the movie xD

But it would just get boring if they'll all breath fire, and even if size would vary, they'll just be the same fire-breathing dragon, what's the fun in this? :/

theyre basically the same except visually and mentally (im okay with dragons looking slightly different and acting slightly different), but they all breathe in oxygen and breathe out co2 just as all dragons should breathe out fire

u dont see variation is what humans breathe out

Yea but it's called fantasy mate ;) And there are always subspecies if you are looking at it from the biological perspective ;D
D&D would be quite boring if you had to fight the same dragon.. I remember my first fight with an ice dragon which was pretty epic (cut off his leg :D) and then I remember a fight against a Red Dragon, so I mean, my team and I were using different strategies which added to the tension and suspense because we had NO IDEA what is gonna happen!
So why make the combat easier and more boring?

Bethesda, I also think that generally making all the enemies different would be awesome, now that's where you make sense Lane, if the same sort of enemies (Skeletons for example) would act slightly different and look slightly different then it would be awesome! Seeing the same 1.80m tall skeleton all the time is not fun, what if the skeleton was a dwarf or an elf or a very tall human? What if he had thicker bones etc.? Then it would be interesting to fight against a variety of skeletons!
Or if we fight against wolves, we might fight an albino wolf, or a white or a black or a brown wolf that also have different sizes and maybe even different skills! Some can be faster, some can be more agile, some can be stronger or tougher to kill, obviously with drawbacks of less from the other skills!

This is a little off subject, but even identical twins are not the same--they just look the same but very often have different personalities... ;)

Anyway, heck yea, I'd love to see a variety of different kinds of dragons. It would make it more interesting/challenging.

But how would that change combat exactly? :/

Absolutely I want to see a variety of dragons.

I'm also curious as to how stealth-based characters will fare in combat against these mighty beasts.

Already confirmed that dragons do different things. That's how the player is able to get varying dragonshouts.

Also, do you guys realize how long it would take to count to 7000? Longer than some of you are thinking, I'm sure.

Hahaha I will do breaks! Place a sword on the step I stopped in and write down the numbers, then just continue from there :P
And hey, it would be fun and rewarding :D

It wouldn′t change really... only their appearance. As it was said, they will be quite varied, and as long as it′s not too fantastic (as far as fantasy goes...), I wouldn′t mind at all

Gad, I'd extremely anxious to get in the water with a Water Dragon. Darting away into the depths and coming back at you from a different direction and such. Maybe even chase you up onto the shore. I've never liked water creatures in video games (usually because they're grosser/more disturbing than most), but a freakin' Dragon? Especially at Night?
Heck yeah man!

Argonians should have a bonus in the water, so battling one/or using one against a water dragon would making water duels more interesting. :twirl:

Yea water duels would be quite interesting, but I think that it should be out of water if there is a water dragon fight, he shouldn't fly of course, just have wings but also gills and all, and more fishy scales etc.
But it would be quite cool :P

And I imagine a forestish Dragon being more snake-like (longer body, smaller wings etc.), and the character walking in the forest and hearing leaves breaking and other noises until the Dragon just appears or jumps at you :P

I would like something like leviathan, which is a long serpant like water dragon. i think thatd be scary as hell.

Here's the only good picture i could find of Leviathan (even though it's him getting vanquished):

Arent there only two types for dragons? black and red. I think they should be more traditional.

Emerald, shadow, ice dragons etc etc reminds me to much of WOW which isnt a good thing.
