Comcast is awesome sarcasm

No really, they are. As long as your modem never goes down.

Because once it goes down, you have to deal with their crappy RANDOM customer service, and don't expect them to get your net back up that same day, or the next day. How about the feeling that they want you to pay the bill while not getting any service. I say random because every once an awhile there is cooperative CR with good social ethic that I actually get somewhere with. Other than that, you get the ones who don't wont to switch you over to the right dept, or some outsourced person who doesn't speak a lick of english. And the NEWEST bit to this, sometimes their number just plain doesn't work.

So my net MYSTERIOUSLY went down saturday, and after calling them a dozen times and getting no where, someone is finally coming out to check my line this saturday. That's right, no net for 7 days :D.

One of the guys said my current modems were not compatible with the system despite using it for a year. Yeah, I got their brand modem(XFINITY) that I got from them yesterday but same deal :D, the modem is "offline" to them.

When the net is up, you don't have to deal with them. (repeating this). When it's down, may as well forget about it.

There's very little options for new net provides(DirectTV and ATT. Yes, that's it..) I've been a comcast customer since the beginning, when they started out as Cable Vision. Moved on to Excite as mailto:Comcast@Home, and then built their own datacenter and became simply Comcast. Back when they had AMAZING service. I wanna know what the hell happened to these people.

Anyway, when the year for their XFINITY modem is up, I'm giving it back >_>.

Quality of Comcast service really depends on the area your in and since you live in Georgia, it doesn't get the attention it does in other states. Remember, the Customer Service depends on the people in your area that comprise it. Here in the Northeast (especially in the HQ city and surrounding area of Philadelphia, Comcast is very nice to have). That being said, they aren't always the best. I just switched over to Verizon Fios because the special we got with Comcast expired and we got a better deal with FioS for the time being. I like their modem and internet service better because it is one of the most constant and stable download/upload speeds I've ever had outside of a T3 line that I had back in 2001-2003 when I went to Penn State Schuykill campus (I was jealous of their Williamsport campus, which specialized in computer science and culinary and their campus had a T5).

Comcast is known for their cheap high-speed internet, with various tiers and their top speed is faster than FioS when you compare the tier-by-tier. However it isn't always at top speed and can easily dip below what FioS provides. With each services basic package, I was able to achieve 15down/5up with Comcast but not always because at peak times it would dip below 10down/1up whereas with FIoS I've noticed a constant 12.5down/2.5up. Now not as top speed as Comcast's comparable tier, but it is always constant no matter what time of day.

You're in Georgia, and you're not the first person I've heard from the southeast to complain about Comcast service down there. However, I still hear more positive than negative from around the country. It all depends on who is responding to the Customer Service, plus also the quality of the infrastructure Comcast is using. Outside of Philadelphia, before Comcast it was Suburban Cable (which originated in Phoenixville, PA...the town of my birth and home for 3 years, and I didn't return until May of 2013) and their infrastructure was great and Comcast essentially inherited all of that into their system. I didn't know Cablevision was down south, I thought they were limited to New York, Boston, and Cleveland.

Well, that svcks. Any word if the alternatives are better?

I've got this cable net connection for a year now, it has not once been out of service. In fact, i don't remember when was the last time i didn't have internet because of technical problems. Ah, the joys of living in a small, wealthy first world nation where availability of broadband internet connection is guaranteed by law :hehe:

7 years ago when I was in college, they were awful when it came to customer service. I've used them for 3 years in my house now and have had occasional issues, but most times they have had good customer service. Two instances weren't very great though. One time I was getting very blurry picture and bad sound from TV and very slow internet speeds. After several calls over the span of a week they finally sent someone out. The tech discovered that my equipment was fine, but the junction box in the alley was bad. Of course, I was the only one on that box (all my neighbors have Dish) otherwise, someone probably would have been sent out sooner with multiple issues in the same area. The tech did not have what was needed to fix the junction box and said typically to get one replaced takes a few days. But he made a few calls and by the end of the day I was up and running again.

Second instance, same thing, but only down in my basemant. A week goes and several calls gets a tech out again. This time, I had very old cable running to the basemant from my junction box on the outside of my house. Comcast charges $100/hr plus materials to run new cable. However, this tech noticed he could jury rig it by running in through a gap where the dryer's exhaust vent is, and since I didn't mind having the cable exposed and not within the wall the two of us ran not only one, but two new lines down to the basemant and he charged me nothing.

TL;DR, phone customer service is hit or miss. When a tech actually comes out, they go above and beyond to take care of you.

I have comcast, and I can confirm they are the opposite of awesome.

I like in the KC metro area, and I can't wait until we can get google fiber. Shouldn't be too long now.
