If true, this doesn't make me particularly happy. Not that it affects me much off-hand right now, since I'm already largely "forced" to use Comcast for everything, where I live, anyway. But that's the point. We need more choices, not more mergers and less choices etc.

One day it'll be like in the film Demolition Man, where "every restaurant is Taco Bell!"

This svcks. That means my internet which I am pretty happy about can only get worse. The first thing Comcast will implement is data caps. I hope the FCC takes a good hard look into this merger.

It sure seems unlikely that the Feds will let this go through. Number one merges with number two and controls 75% of the market...that flies straight into anti-trust laws that have been in force for decades. Unless cable networks have some special dispensation, and I can't think of any reason that they would.

EDIT: Upon further review...they are apparently counting on their combined 75% of 'cable service' being a much smaller segment of 'pay TV service' making this merger not a violation of market share limitations. That may very well work, so I guess I better look into alternatives just in case Comcast sux.

As if buying Universal wasn't enough, they continue their path to planetary takeover.

Comcast has no data caps. They had a 250cap before but lifted it. If they are smart, they will keep it that way.

There is no 'just in case'. They DO svck.

Me thinks Comcast who cannot beat ATT in telecommunications, is trying to compensate for this fact by trying to gain total control over all cable and internet communications around the world.

We'll also have Brawndo on every street corner, but that's okay, it's got what plants crave.

All I have to say to any of you time warner users, watch your comcast bills like a hawk. When they mysteriously add [censored], have them take it off. And don't rent their modems. Get your own.

Time Warner used to do that to me. I finally got tired of it and dumped them.

Won't happen because it's one step closer to a monopoly. Comcast bought out NBC Universal a couple of years ago, so you can bet there are going to be eyes on the deal, and the feds will nix it for anti-competitive practices.

The Comcast board has also made a few enemies in Washington (over the NBC deal), and grudges last a lifetime there.

In addition, you can bet the satellite industry will step in to block it, because it won't take a genius to see how this merger could disrupt their business by offering cut-throat prices to lure customers away, collapse the satellite business, then raise rates.

The government should have left AT&T alone. :swear:

Remember when Time Warner bought Adolphia. I was so confused since I was only a little kid and just knew it was the company that I got internet from. Then they started having amusing commercials and I stopped caring. Apparently, Comcast is redoing what happened in my childhood. Make things more weird. I think I had an Adolphia mousepad a long time ago, but it got too dirty.

I actually envied Comcast users for a time because they had Sonic X on demand. I was just a stupid kid who wanted to watch Sonic X after it had been canceled. I have no experiences with them outside of hating that they had Sonic X on demand a long time ago.

Pay a fee every time you swear.

This is common practice with Time Warner. They also have terribly spotty service, lots of lag on their internet, and are the only non-satelite option for most of us. (AT&T is slowly expanding their U-Verse service, but it's hit or miss right now. My next door neighbor has it, but I can't get it because I'm too far from the line.)

I just hope if this is true that Comcast is actually an improvement on the garbage service we've had over the years with Time Warner. If not, it might be time to consider satelite.

Been with comcast since before they offered internet and was just a cable provider. Their actual internet service is amazing and very fast. The biggest con is when your net goes down. Depending on your area, the customer service will either be outstanding, or really terrible and you could spend up to a week to get a simple outage fixed. And despite good net connection. I live in the south where CR is REALLY BAD and I so want to get away from Comcast.

They are unfortunately pro Net Neutrality.

If ATT moves to your area, I would recommend them. Though I'm just one person, I hadn't had any issues with their connection or customer service. And only when back to comcast cause mother dearest kept complaining about the mandatory long distance fee which never went up with usage.

Oops, nah I mean they support it.

They have tried to implement measures to stop various p2p activities. There was a big legal battle with that which they eventually lost.

But with the recent neutrality thing, there's no telling whether they'll go for this again or not.

Side note: Obviously I'm anti-comcast, and anti-comcast-planetary-takeover.

Some net corp needs to save us from these people.

Monopolization like this is never good for the customer but just know it could be worse, much worse. Hughes Net offers people like me too far away from civilization for cable a 500MB daily cap and I've never seen my download speeds get above 200KB/s.

I don't like seeing Comcast getting bigger. :(

That said, I've had their internet service for 8 years and I've always been very happy with it aside from the pricing. I think their quality of service depends on your location at least a bit.
