Come on, Bethesda, fix the rain already!

Also I don't see any of that "procedural snow" we were suppose to get. What I did see was a screen effect and painted on snow that did not react to wind or footsteps and didnt look to be building at all.

It was a storm shout powered by magic, and if you notice the direction of it always aligned to the player like it follows him around. Chances are this is a special effect and not the same as weather generated rain we will see which will vary in intensity and possibly have collision on models hopefully.

This makes absolutely no sense. Why spend so much time creating a nice rain effect, and then not use it when you have the opportunity? Especially for a showcase of the game, where Bethesda wanted it to be at its absolute best?

lolwut? If that's possible why wouldn't they use the new one.. derp?

1 possibility - internal communications failure : coder doing Shout doesn't know about new rain routine, poeple who did new Rain routine don't realize that the coder doing Shout needs to know about the updated rain. Very easy problem to happen

The distant fog looks nice, but I wonder about the general fog effect. In Oblivion you would always see the outlines of objects in the distance, no matter how far away. That is not how fog works. To get a really nice fog atmosphere the fog needs to cover the object outlines so you can't see anything beyond a certain point. That would actually help performance even since you could simply cut the rendering after that point. So it would not only look cool, it would also increase performance. I haven't seen anything like that in Skyrim yet, it seems to be the same pseudo fog effect that was in Oblivion. Seems like weather effects were not their #1 priority while making the game, except for the snow effect we haven't seen yet...

You have no excuse this time. Morrowind's rain bled through models AND it was fixed by modders. Oblivion's rain bled, as well. This bug has been in your games for TEN YEARS now and you STILL haven't fixed it? When you completely rewrote your engine? How could you miss this?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kt7IeycKJKQ&feature=player_embedded You will see it clear as day.

For F sake how many times must this be said?

That "NEW" demo footage that was released was edited old video footage from the E3 private demo.

The footage they used for editing was that of BEFORE they fixed the ragdoll problem (theirs another video where the giant falls properly) and its already been confirmed that the rain falling through objects has been fixed more or less.

Maybe because rain is here not real rain but just a post effect..

you can see it when you turn around, the rain turns with you

(like snow in Oblivion < more obvious)

When you're talking about a location or are referencing existence, you use the word THERE. (There's another video where the giant falls properly)
When you're talking about the possessive aspect, you use the word THEIR (What is their problem with vampires?)
When you're making a contraction of the words THEY and ARE, you use the word THEY'RE. (They're taking the hobbits to Isengard.)

Problem is, this is just an excuse. AAA games cut their teeth on pushing the boundaries. In a game of exploration and mimicing real world situations that push the envelope of immersion, weather is an all-too present factor that has been ignored.

I understand that certain platforms and their limitation have [censored] the progress of gaming, but the sarcasm you just said is akin to telling a consumer who wants the ability to hookup their iPod to an audio system in a car (when they didn't exist) that in order to do so they had to go get an engineering degree or whatever it would take for they themselves to single-handedly create it themselves. There's simply no logic in telling this to a consumer.

exactly. "good enough is not good enough" imo.

This actually is interesting, i'm wondering now how this shout is suppose to work indoors considering we need space for clouds and all that.

I just have one question. People keep saying "this is alpha, pre-alpha, mid-alpha footage."

Why would you showcase a game in any of those states of development....?

Agreed with op, but I have hope this can be sorted out before launch. Even if not critical, it can be a bit embarassing.

I am happy enough to see snow storm effects. But I want more, and not only the ones that would come with the mods. The modders community did wonder on that aspect in Oblivion, btw.

People want to be hopeful. I'm sure at least 95% of what they showed in the demo was complete. That doesn't mean everything else that they didn't show was finished.

I'm a sim fan (Mechwarrior, specifically)

And sim is all about immersing yourself into the game world (I think Skyrim would benefit HEAVILY from doing so)

For sim fans, no small detail of realism is too small. If it begins to rain, we want to see droplets form on the windshield and begin to roll down. We want to see heat rising off the horizon in the distance warping our view of what's at range. We want to see steam rise from the pool of water we enter as we move our overheating Mech into it. We want to hear the loading mechanisms for our missile salvos ready the next set of missiles into their pods and then hear them scream as we fire them, leaving trails of smoke in their wake.

Details details details. WE. LOVE. DETAILS.

A realistic weather system (especially for an adventure game this epic in size and grandeur) would be sweet.

We don't know. The demo was recorded before E3, so there has definitely been time enough for improvements. But there's no telling if they actually fixed it unless we get a direct answer from the devs.

It was THE DRAGON SHOUT CALLED STORM CALL THAT MADE THAT HAPPEN. Todd Howard has conf?rmed himself that the rain doesn't go through objects anymore.

I saw rain roll down the screen or some water in droplets unless I was seeing stuff isn't that somewhat improved? I surely never saw that in OB.

Well as long as the PC community have the modding tools that allows to make it how it should have been, I guess it's not all bad.

Can't believe I'm saying that already with the game not even out. Probably experience from morrowind (character models ?) and Oblivion (scaled monsters levels ?) that in a elder scrolls game, there will always be trivial broken things in vanilla, but the powerful modding tools make it forgiveable.

If that's true then that's great. Too bad of course that the storm call rain still does have the problem, but that's nowhere near as bad as having it happen with regular rain.
