Yeah, I don't see why they'd use a different rain effect for the dragon shout... that just seems silly. If it follows the player around then it's exactly like Oblivion, because that was basically just a shader over the camera, plus pitter-patter in the water. If someone has proof that there's a difference between the shout rain and the real rain, or that real rain doesn't actually clip through solid surfaces, I'd like to see it. I want a link.

You don't need to care about rain going through buildings, because there's MAGIC!

Can't see why <_<

That was alpha though, as far as we know they might have fixed it already.

Soooo it could hurt enemies in doors?

If the rain is that magical.....wouldn't that make it harmful to people? I mean if it can pierce through a roof with ease.... :whistling:

i dont see why people are thinking the shout rain would be any different than natural rain. all the shout doest is summon it beyond that there shouldnt be any other difference.

This thread is pointless. The footage was from the ALPHA version. What the hell do you expect? It will be fixed by the time the game comes out. It could already be fixed. Who knows? Its completely illogical to assume that what you see in alpha game footage is exactly what will be in the game. Stop telling bethesda to fix the rain when the probably already did...

Isn't it just as illogical to assume that we can't make posts based on footage just because all we have available is an alpha version?

I was being silly right there, but seriously, don't put too much care into the small things. It is the alpha version, it was the less-edited version of the E3 demo. If it is like this in the final product, I won't care much. I would rather have a great story, and awesome gameplay.

that was your shout though. Actual rain may be different.

It's rain regardless. I doubt they would use to different systems for rain.

"From what I read or heard during a Todd Howard interview was that their new Creation Engine fixes the rain/snow going through solid objects, so it's much more realistic/plausible."

I do seem to recall this as well, although my memory is probably flawed.

It's not just about immersion, from a technical stand point something like this should no longer be a problem, but as some others keep saying over and over and.......Todd Howard confirms rain does not pass through objects, still waiting for them to provide a link though.

Oh look, someone brings up a valid critisism and people make fun of him for it. <_< It's like following beth is a religion or something.

From the passage of the Elder Scrolls. Verse Five, line two. And Todd the God said to his followers "And rain shall pass through all solid objects. Let those who are dry be wet, and those who are wet be soaked. May the heretics who question the logic be burned in the holy flames of magical physics and madness. For I say unto you, if you were thristy I would give you water. And if you are fine and go inside to get away, I shall give you the life water regardless."

Amen.

Just kidding.

To those of you failing to see the point of this thread:

This is NOT about a simple bug in the game, it is a bug in this series that after a decade of reports and annoyance has still not been fixed, and I will be maintaining this position until evidence (that is not Todd Howard hearsay) is presented to the contrary, as we have evidence that it is happening here.

That is the point here. It is not simply about the rain.

If rain was procedural like the snow, we wouldn't have to worry. Procedural rain would know where it can fall and not.

Also, this hints that there's probably only 2 modes of rain: Heavy downpour and none at all.

Not the kind of dynamic weather I was hoping for.

There are different regions of this planet where it either doesnt rain, or down pours. Not really an "immersion breaker" if thats what your referring to. .

1 possibility - internal communications failure : coder doing Shout doesn't know about new rain routine, poeple who did new Rain routine don't realize that the coder doing Shout needs to know about the updated rain. Very easy problem to happen

Realistic possibility - Rain goes through buildings..

Why hasn't someone tweeted pete yet?
