[REL] Comes-By-Road: Healer Companion

The scripting was impressive, but I must admit I was a little disappointed he didn't have any story or personality to speak of.

I would step in, except .....
From screeny, which one is player/companion?
If Redguard chick is companion, I'm hooked ....

but for a He-Lizard, no-^^-way

The "chick" is Jasmine with a different hair style, Aldert, the Argonian is Melian's new companion. :P

Thanks, Jac, clear

- and some light on my views:
I may like bobs, boobs, bounce, butts .... mehhh ... a1x2e3l anim....and edits, a lot ..... but smooth-skins, mainly

Not every companion can have a personality like Jasmine Julan. :hehe:

As long as he can keep me from dying in combat, I don't care what he looks like. B)

Melian, I picked up the latest version but haven't made my way to Ebonheart yet. I'll let you know how he acts with my crew, though - I have Jasmine, (soon to have) Spot and Lulu. It's going to be interesting to say the least...

Ack, I forgot to put that in the readme! :banghead: (Well, it's sort of there, but not too clear)... Anyway, he's at the Six Fishes in Ebonheart (just to the left of the door). Sorry! :embarrass:

He's *not* a romance companion! Or a quest companion or, well, anything that involves literary effort on my part, really. No need to worry about rebuffing advances from a lizard. Just so that's clear. :P

BTW, Jasmine does have most of CBR's follow features, and she is (or will be) a romance companion, so try her instead. ;) She won't heal you though!

Nope, CBR is more in line with good ol' SWJ or Grumpy's companions: just pick him up and off you go. The whole point of the mod was to release the scripts as a kind of resource, so I take that as a compliment. :)

(And if it's any comfort, Kateri's been looking through them already. ;) )

Okay, I finally picked up the intrepid adventurer. With a party consisting of him, Jasmine, Lulu and Spot, I haven't noticed any real frame rate hits. Then again, I tend to get pretty poor ones, so that's not surprising. He follows okay and heals me when he should, but I can see that I'm going to have to keep him well stocked with restore magicka potions; a small price to pay for not having to heal myself. ;) I saw what you meant about his coloring being off when using AlienSloft's Argonian retextues, I may wind up changing his face and hair to one of hers. Anyway, let me know if you want to continue what we discussed the other day for him.

I gave CBR a http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m313/gulfwulf/Morrowind%20pics/CBR.jpg so he would better fit AlienSloft's retextures. B) So far he seems to be doing his job properly, but I still need to figure out how to get him to heal Spot.

Well I did warn about potential colour-clashing issues in the readme :P

To get him to heal creatures, drop his amulet on the ground and you'll get a messagebox with instructions. The script ID is mel_CBR_AutoHealAddOther, just start that script on Spot (but if you forget the ID, it's in the messagebox, so you don't have to alt-tab out of the game to look it up).

And yes, I'm VERY interested in continuing what you mentioned! I've been messing around with his disposition scripting - I can basically have his disp affected by any of the usual things you might want (faction, personality, charm spells, etc). Both the Twin Lamps mods I have (Nevena's and Brother Juniper's) use the vanilla Twin Lamps faction ID so that's a possible influence. I haven't tested anything yet (been a bit busy) but it should work, just have to get some other things done first.

Yes, well, I had to see for myself. :P

I saw that in the readme. Maybe now Spot has a chance to survive...

Let's stick to the vanilla quests for now because I'm not entirely sure if creating dummy journal entires won't break another mod. Anyway, we can discuss that via pm if you like. :)

* Will not fall victim to the 72-hours cleanup: you can leave him alone as long as you like and you should still be able to summon him with his amulet

How do you fix this ?

"Corpses persist" checked in the NPC object properties box. ;)

Technical details: the 72 hours is set by fCorpseClearDelay. The same value is used for other temp data, so if you make the corpse persistent some of that temp data is saved (including the ability to forcegreet).

The only problem with corpses persist is that updating may reset the companion. I used to use until I discovered that issue.

IIRC the other problem with corpses persist is that you can no longer take advantage of the 72 hour reset function if you want to reset your companion's disposition/fight setting/certain AI issues. (it really is supposed to be a function, not a bug! ;) )

Hm, I've never had a problem with corpses persist and updating... possibly because I'm usually very careful about it? Dunno. Loriel didn't report any problems either.

PS Fight setting doesn't change unless it's scripted. But the 'am I currently in combat?' thing is recalculated *from* the fight setting after 72 hours, so if fight is low they won't reenter combat. I haven't had any problems with this either, but if anyone does, let me know! I can script round that. ;)

Some of us aren't Wrye Mash experts. :meh: Anyway, I took it out because the game kept spitting errors about not being able to find racial spells and I didn't want 50+ messages asking how to update. But if it updates properly, keep it in, but let people know how to update. :D

melian, I missed this at the time of its release.

Thank you for a very different companion, based on an interesting and unique concept, with some very clever features. :goodjob:

I must admit, what really caught my eye about this was more an obviously Argonian name (I've always felt that there are far too few Argonian and Khajiit companions available. And besides, I am thinking of making an Argonian character and he or she will probably be most comfortable in the company of his own kin) than the promise of a healer companion, still, such abilities should make him a useful addition, especially when one travels with multiple companions, as it may be hard for the player to heal all of them when they need it.
