Command & Conquer

Post » Thu May 19, 2011 5:33 am

I like the Red Alerts but I enjoyed Sun and Dawn a lot more. Anyone play Tiberium Wars and Twilight? I believe those are the most recent ones that I have not played yet. So if you've played them which do you like best and why?

C&C 4 Tiberian Twilight
C&C 3 Tiberium Wars
C&C Tiberian Sun
C&C Tiberian Dawn

Thanks :)

Dawn got me into RTS', it has "Doom" status for me

Sun i always found boring

Wars is pretty good, as is it's expansion Kane's Wrath.

Red Alert 3 is fun if you don't go taking it seriously :hehe:

Generals and Twilight are some other games that were erroneously named as Command & Conquer :P Generals is great, Twilight is ...:flamethrower: :ahhh:

I was playing Red Alert 2 earlier. It is still one of my favourite RTS games. Both campaigns are wonderfully cheesy and the expansion pack, Yuri's Revenge adds some fun new missions, units and a whole new faction to play as. I haven't played Generals beyond some skirmishes at a friend's house and I haven't played RA3. Kane's Wrath's campaign was mediocre in my opinion but the multiplayer is entertaining if thats what interests you.

C&C 4 is a disgrace to the franchise. No basebuilding, units are unlocked by 'levelling up' (like spells in an MMORPG), all units are free, everyone only has 1 building. If you lose it you can always respawn. There is a population cap on units. Basically around the map there will be 'Tiberium Nodes' which is just a spinning tiberium crystal. First player to 2500 points by gathering these crystals win.

Tiberian Sun is the best C&C out there in my opinion. It was my first RTS, and still my favorite (outside RomeTW).

The newer ones are only fair.

Tiberium Wars was actually pretty good, although it felt a bit too much like a 'reboot' instead of building on the plotlines and cool technologies in Tiberian Sun.

I haven't tried Twilight, it sounds awful.

In a war based RTS. That's the death of a franchise there.

I always liked the original, personally.

C&C red alert + aftermath & counterstrike (have you ever wondered what battling giant ants would be like)

or

3 + Kanes Wrath (teleporting hexapod, neat but simple world domination gameplay)

You can't really go wrong as long as you stay far away from 4. Actually you might have a little trouble running some of the older ones depending on your setup. But gameplay-wise they are all excellent except for 4.

C&C 4 Tiberian Twilight <--- dunno, didn't buy it, but everyone says it's crap, so crap it is :foodndrink:
C&C 3 Tiberium Wars + Kane's Wrath == Win :goodjob:
C&C Tiberian Sun <-- also great, with somewhat dated graphics in a fixed isometric 3D view
C&C Tiberian Dawn <-- more on the dated side :hehe:

Thanks :)

yup ;)

edit
lemme say that the different factions that you get with Kane's wrath expansion are also a real gain to the game in expanding the strategies.

Well, it was always the plan to step back a bit from the far out sci-fi Tiberian Sun had. A lot of people felt weirded out by the sequel jumping suddenly from more grounded modern warfare to borderline Dune.

I like the multiplayer of RA3 and the solo campaign of Tiberian Sun the most.

Twilight is not really a C&C game, that much I can say. It's not bad as far as arena strategy goes, and the solo campaign was genuinely fun, but you really felt that, story-wise, they just needed to rush stuff to put plot into what previously was supposed to be a China-only MP title.

My favourite of the series is Generals + Zero Hour. Though not exactly a C&C game in essence, it's still a lot of fun with its over-the-top characters and technologies.

Tiberium Wars was a lot of fun, especially with the new race to play as. Haven't played Kane's Wrath, but I intend to.

Sun and Dawn are classics, but they are pretty damn hard. I have never managed to finish them.

I have yet to play Twilight, but I feel the need to simply to see how the story ends. I'd only buy it if it were extremely cheap.

C&C 4 Tiberian Twilight
C&C 3 Tiberium Wars
C&C Tiberian Sun
C&C Tiberian Dawn

Well if we are excluding the Red Alerts, I'd say I lked Tiberian Dawn and Tiberian Sun the best. The original is always the best and they were made by westwood and not EA which made them even better.

Tibirium Wars was actually pretty good game in my opinion for being made by EA. I think Tiberium Wars was the first command and conquer game EA has made since they bought the franchise which wasn't cheesy and was a lot more serious. And they actually did stay I'd say about 50% to the originals. It was just really weird how Tiberian Sun had this earth population dwindling feeling to it, then Tiberian Wars comes along where there's massive unit battles, huge cities which seemed kind of out of placed for being a squeal to Tiberian Sun. And the Scrin was actually well done in my opinion which made for an interesting plot line and an interesting 3rd race. Then there's Kanes Wrath an interesting expansion which sort of killed it. The Cyborgs aren't exactly the way they should look and are too "EA" when compared to westwood version of Cyborgs which were a lot scarier in my opinion. Tiberium Wars is worth getting and the single player was actually pretty good but too easy in my opinion even on hard difficulty.

Tiberian Twlight I never played and it just didn't really grab my interests. Just by reading up on it and watching game play videos makes me say WTF this isn't command and conquer. It is a squeal but it doesn't have the Command and Conquer aspects which makes a Command and Conquer game a Command and Conquer game.

The best command and conquer games were the ones made by Westwood and well Tiberium Wars I would say is the only EA command and conquer I'd say I truly liked because it wasn't cheesy and out there.
